Opening with the gentle lull of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata and slowly building into a magnificently emotive melding of shrieked vocals and tremolo picked guitars, So Hideous do not hide their influences nor desired direction on this album. Among the quite wide array of listed tags on the group's bandcamp page, the two that hold the most merit seem to be "orchestral" and "black metal". Now I prefer the term orchestral to symphonic in this case for a number of reasons, mostly because the band holds very little in the way of similarity to the artists at the forefront of symphonic black metal, but rather pave their own path.

Disagree ^ I find this to be more of a post-hardcore record with black metal and epic orchestral and shoegaze elements. Quite unique compared to its ilk.

Glad someone else shares my summation of the sound. Still not blown away, but I quite enjoyed this album. Making it one big composition spaces it from its peers as well.

I'll definitely give it plays from time time when I want something epic but with a bit of an edge.

Beautiful, I found the mix with the classic-styled melodies pretty nice.

Absolutely beautiful. If I heard this live with a real orchestra I would probably cry a little.

Aye, I don't mind Deafheaven, but this is how this style is done.

Some nice melodies here and there, but these guys are like the Mahler of metal, just unending crescendos. Very exhausting.

Yeah there's some good stuff going on here. Not perfect but some really grandiose climaxes going on here - really dig the end of The Keepsake

Agree, this is good. I think one of the biggest influences here is post-rock, more precise Mono.

Look at that! I knew we could agree on influences! *hugs*
Jokes aside, yeah... It's definitely not the calmer post-rock but more the crescendo-filled and wall-of-sound post-rock like Mono does.
