It is a common experience that some albums need time to sink in and grow on you, sounding better and better after every listen. On other occasions comes an album that gets you hooked from the very beginning and the more you spin it, the more you are left flabbergasted by the sheer brilliance of it. Ghostlands - Wounds From A Bleeding Earth belongs to the latter kind.

¡Madre de Dios! (Mother of God!) Who are these fucking monsters and where were they created?! This is an ear bomb from the beginning to the end, and it has such different elements mixed in a perfect way. What a debut album!

"Atmospheric" tag was given after listening first track for like 5 seconds.

It sounds more like blackened viking whatever folk metal black metal
produced up to the perfection.

An easy 10/10 not even from a fanboy.

Seriously strong songwriting! I agree that this isn't atmospheric. Most of the songs have folk/viking metal elements, but not in an annoying or corny way. It all sounds very full of purpose and not hashed together. Extremely well executed.

Yep, definitely not atmospheric, more melodic in terms of genre. Very enjoyable album. Music and style reminds me of Tribulation a bit.

edit: I have been listening to this on repeat for the last week. Melodic, catchy, headbangingworthy, inspiring. What an awesome piece of music!

edit #2: I have been listening to this non-stop for the last 3 weeks. Who gives a flying fuck about genres; whether it's melodic, atmospheric, viking, folk, blah blah blah... This is black metal at its finest. I know it sounds blasphemous, but I get a similar feeling hearing this, as the one I had with Dissection's Storm Of The Light's Bane. My next edit will probably be to give it a 10.

edit #3: Okay, it will take something spectacularly awesome to surpass this in 2017. So far, quite easily album of the year and a glorious 10.

Like Dissection, viking-era Bathory and Tribulation had an epic threesome. And it's definitely not a waste of time. Rather a strong contender for aoty.

Probably one of the few times we agree. It is not the most average thing I heard all year but it is a rather vanilla record. Similar sounding bands such as Thyrfing, Ereb Altor and Moonsorrow are all way better than Wormwood.

Most average of the year was indeed an overstatement on my part.
This is what I said about this album somewhere else:
Quote:
As merry as lambs prancing around in meadows melodic black metal that makes this fat guy start a one man polonaise in his living room. Yes, boys and girls that is what Wormwood does to this man with 'Ghostlands: Wounds From A Bleeding Earth' So, very upbeat it all is. At times it makes me think of acts such as Finntroll and Manegram. The kind of pagan black with a lot of folk leanings. Not everyone's cup of tea and to be honest, also not really mine. But at times this sort of black does go down well and it makes you smile. Well-executed, that has to be said.

I was a bit disappointed with this album after reading the glowing praise in the comments

Its a good album, no doubt. But I'm not sure it warrants higher than an 8/10 IMO. Maybe I just don't 'get' this new wave of Black Metal (e.g. Mgła). I'll stick with Emperor, Windir, and Dissection
