10 years ago today (give or take a few hours) SikTh unleashed upon the world what I still regard as a landmark album for extreme metal. Drawing on metalcore, math metal and progressive metal, they constructed a genre-defying record of unbridled complexity and brilliance which to this day has never, in my opinion, been bettered within its vague stylistic area of music.

I'm not sure if you were drawing on something I said elsewhere or it's just a coincidence but SikTh probably were my first extreme metal band, and funnily enough Annihilation of the Wicked was possibly my first death metal album

Goddamnit Joe, I just want to thank you for introducing me to this godsend of an album. When I first saw you call this a "landmark of extreme metal" I thought it was just one of those usual hyperbole you'd find on sites like this.

But I'll be damned; I've been listening to it for over a year now, and still it only gets better and better. It's like some sort of childish joy I find in this album.

Awesome, you're welcome even after knowing of it for maybe close to a decade I still don't find it boring and really reminiscent of anything else that came after it. Certainly has staying power.

I should listen to this. I'm pretty sure I didn't like it when I first heard it but I don't even remember how long ago that was and I can't even remember a single riff. Maybe I didn't even listen to it and it's one of those albums I remember not liking for no reason.

As much as I want you to, I know I'll come back tomorrow and see you giving it a 7, saying something along the lines of thinking it's ok but not that great

I remember liking it, but I am going to listen to it tonight, and I hope I hate it and give it a 4.

Come on Joe, you know I never listen to things I say I will until like a year later. And even if I rated it I'd just delete it in a week anyway.

But I will post my thoughts once I get around to actually listening to it. I'll even write up a mini-review as a comment just to be more descriptive for you.

I'll brace myself.

And yeah, the "Cool, I'll check this out" response to people followed by never listening to their recs. Pretty guilty of that one.

Okay. I'm halfway into it. Yeah I like it as much as I did almost ten years ago, but this is the kind of stuff I know I won't go back to, which indeed I haven't in a long time, that's why I couldn't remember if I liked it, so that's why I had to listen to it again, because I hadn't in a long while, because it's not the kind of stuff I go back to very often.

Revisiting this after a long time, this is a fantastic album instrumental and idea wise, but god those vocals are way too fucking irritating at points. Border on some of the worse I've ever heard, which is a damn shame because the music is some of the best I've ever heard.

This album is super weird. I think that's why I might like it so much. Definitely one of the more unconventional records I've heard in my time; very creative and unique. 'Can't We All Dream?' is an amazing track.

This was one of the albums I came across during my early rock/metal years that I hated, but I was tempted to revisit it having seen all the complimentary comments over the years (although I was slightly scared that if I loved this, then what else from back then would I have to revisit!). Well, the music is mostly good and sometimes great, if not totally immersing, but the vocals are a total deal-breaker - occasionally good enough but often just nails-on-chalkboard unbearable. As far as 'kitchen sink' metal bands with polarizing vocalists go, it would seem Between The buried And Me and Protest The Hero are more in line with my tastes.

I found a SikTh section of CDs at a store today and I was thinking how much I would love to own this album and of course they only had the second album and the new EP.
