This is excellent news. But it seems like an awfully long time already
But glad to know that they are active and writing again.

Their vocalist/bassist has just released his second album with Lunatic Soul; so I guess it won't be too soon a new Riverside...

The acronym for the album title, SONGS, is supposed to give a clue on the sound of the album.
I think I'm running short of imagination over here.

So... The album has songs?

How? Did I miss something?
That is what I understood from the piece of news announcing the album at least
And yeah, my reaction was similar to Mr. Doctor's. Maybe it means that the album is song oriented? Not that I really know what it means.

Cant wait to have a listen/review of this one. Riverside's ADHD saw such maturity in the flow of the album, perfection of total album length, pacing, songwriting... so many factors. Plus production was gorgeous. Porcupine Tree's latest was a dissapointment, Opeth's was too.. I think since Riverside's Mariusz Duda is not buddies with the previously mentioned progressive masterminds, hopefully he will not make the same mistake of creating an album for himself rather than his fans.
I don't believe he would do that. After all, he has Lunatic Soul to expel any creative idea's that don't quite fit into the main band.

How is that a mistake? It's the sanest thing to do for a musician (unless you are in it for the moneyz, of course). Anyway, whatever he does he won't be able to keep all his fanbase happy.

And who's to say an album for himself and an album for his fans aren't one and the same? I recently discovered his work with Indukti and I can honestly say the man never dissapoints, not once.

Strong seven for moody "We Got Used To Us" and "Feel Like Falling", a great ending "Escalator Shrine" and Mariusz Duda's vocals. The other is nothing special. Well, maybe very weak "Celebrity Touch".

It was good and I really love the concept , but some moments I didn't really feel anything . I'm not disappointed but surely it's not my fave from them either. 8.3ish for me .

Have to agree. Still not finished it, but overall I'm disappointed, not really my thing, although I liked their previous one.

I know right? If you start making music to pander to fans it's going to get old quick. Then these fans will complain that they are just repeating the same formula (see: Gojira).

Had to rate it a nine. It's Riverside being Riverside and therefore it's damn good on the same level as ADHD, this one.

Well, I like every bit of the album except for the main riff of "Celebrity Touch" (and it's overuse) and the disappointing second half of "Escalator Shrine" after that excellent build-up. I don't LOVE it, at least for now.

Listened to the album once and thought "this is nothing special," then I listened to it six times in a row. I am addicted to this damn album now! Their first two albums are by far their best, but this is still a damn solid album.

It's really hard for me to vote this album. In my opinion is very unequal, the best thing in this album is Duda's vocal, wonderful as always (except in the Celebrity Touch). I prefer songs which sounds like "old" Riverside. I've listened to this album several times, still don't know how judge it, maybe I need to listen it more, but for now I prefer another sounds.

Yes I found it a bit unequal as well. That's talking in terms of the comparison between the exceptional tracks "We Got Used To Us"/ "Feel Like Falling" and the rest of the album which is certainly of a standard of quality. Two very high points with the rest not quite matching them, although "The Depth of Self-Delusion" might come close.
But the sound of the album... it's impossibly smooth. Production is above and beyond their previous records.

First impressions upon first listen: this album is darker and new ground for the band. It does remind me of the "Voices In My Head" EP possibly because of the use of acoustic guitars. Need more time with the album, it's different and I like that.
Favourite songs so far: Feel Like Falling/Coda

I'm disappointed with this release and I love most of Riverside's past work but this one is just...flat. I'm not sure if they're is a better way for me to explain it. I find the album incredibly dull.

First riverside album, classy shit with a good production, everything is well pronounced and well balanced. Most of the songs are great. Some of them are kind of meh though, like elevator shrine, I can never sit though it all.

A really good album for relaxing to on a Sunday afternoon.
Seriously, it has that soothing non-imposing ambience delivered by the likes of Porcupine Tree. However, when they turn up the progressive elements they really seem to be having a ball with it.
''Celebrity Touch'' is a load of fun in particular-no real prog-centric ''look at this riffage; I dominate time signatures like a motherfucker''. It just has this unstoppable momentum that will stick in your head all day.
