Biography
Andrés Gil is a guitar player born in Popayán and raised in Armenia, a small city in Colombia. Since his early years he showed passion for rock music and specially for the guitar and during his teens he had different musical projects.
Years later life put him in the US, where in June 2016 he saw a video posted on a Colombian rock website by the drummer Juan David Castillo, Andrés was really impressed. So he decided to contact him and plan his return to Colombia, this time to settle in Medellín and start this musical journey with Power Within.
These two musicians started searching for other band members to complete the desired line-up. Soon after, Juan David Jaramillo joined them on the bass guitar, José David Díaz on the rhythm guitar and Emmanuel Piedrahita on the keyboards. The band was almost complete. The only missing link was a powerful voice to accomplish the fierce and forceful sound they wished for.
A singer hailing from the Coffee Region of Colombia named Sebastian Gonzalez became the singer. Yet, he could not be part of the band for long, since he had to undergo a surgery that jeopardized his vocal cords in late 2017.
Power Within continued rehearsing and writing the songs that would constitute Inception, their first musical production. Once the 10 songs were completed, they went to Dimisa Studios with producer and musician Santiago Mora (Ekhymosis, Terra Sur, Forxa), and recorded the instruments of this debut album. Subsequently, an audition was called to find the new vocalist. During that process, the band was able to meet Juan Camilo Zea, a singer influenced by Hard Rock and European Power Metal, who perfectly fit the demands of the band.
At this point, the lyrics and vocal melodies started to be created and after 6 months of painstaking and arduous work, the goal was achieved and the recordings for the voices took place at 406 Recording Studios with producer Sebastián de los Ríos. Two songs feature Julián Castaño form Absolution Denied, whose powerful and angry voice added a modern touch to the mix.
On August 1st 2018 the wait ended, and 'Inception' was finally released. Melodic yet heavy songs, with powerful vocals and catchy instrumental compositions have had great reception so far. The album is available for streaming or download from digital platforms.
