Biography

This is By Night.
An extreme metal act from Falkenberg, Sweden. Currently signed to the German metal/hardcore label LifeForce Records. Formed by the three childhood friends: André Gonzales (guitar), Simon Wien (guitar) and Per Qvarnström (drums) back in year 1999. Started off as a typical Swedish Deathmetalband á la At The Gates and after some time Henrik Persson joined the band as the bassplayer. With him came more inspiration, influences and hope for the future so they started to make new and more brutal songs as they detuned the strings from D to B.

Still they hadn't found a singer so that they could record a demo but after a half a year they found Christoffer Andersson. And so year 2000 a complete By Night went into the studio to record their first release with the same title containing two songs followed by the five track mini CD "Derelict" (2001). They got great response for the two demos and their live-performances, and with that By Night made themselves a name.

During the time around spring 2002, after some social problems between Christoffer and By Night, they went separate ways. By that moment the music had evolved to a more aggressive, technical and brutal kind of metal and By Night refused to give up. So they began to actively look for a new singer until they went to a local gig and discovered Adrian Westin with his band Aggressive Serpent (nowadays with the name Trendkill). His aggressive voice along with his furious stageperformance was exactly what By Night had been looking for. They contacted him and with no hesitation he joined the band.

New inspiration came to life and the tuning went further down to B flat for an even heavier sound. By Night made new songs, chose three of them and recorded a new demo with the title: "Lamentations" (2003) which later reappeared remastered on a splitalbum (2004) together with their friends and later on to be their labelmates Cipher System when the German metal/hardcore label Lifeforce Records had discovered them. Before that happened By Night got exceptionally remarkable response from listeners around the world, magazines, metalclub-owners etc. etc. They were voted to be the Sweden's best unsigned band in the 60th issue of Scandinavia's most respectable metalzine Close-Up Magazine and not to forget the now discontinued Monster Magazine.

All this led to a contracted cooperation between By Night and Lifeforce Records. So in June 2004 By Night went into Studio Mega, where they did "Lamentations", and recorded their debut album "Burn The Flags" which was released worldwide in February 2005. Simon decided to leave the band for a higher call short after the release, and Henke took over for him as Marcus Wesslén (Trendkill) joined as the new bassplayer. The recordings of their new studioalbum "A New Shape Of Desperation" are finished and it was released September 25th, 2006.
