Biography

The idea of Demonoid was born in 2000-2001. Kristian and Johan Niemann was looking to do something more extreme than Therion, as they were both influenced by acts like Nile, Satyricon and Emperor among many.

In 2002 Ricky Evensand joined Therion and almost right away he was introduced to the idea of Demonoid. Kristian, Johan and Ricky had very similar ideas of what they wanted, they all had the desire of doing something more darker, aggressive but melodic at the same time. So in the summer of 2002 Kristian and Johan had all the song ideas finished, and at this time already had started rehearsing to record an album. All along this time, Therion mainman Christofer Johnsson hade been involved and promised to help out with the vocals and lyrics, he however couldn't promise to do any touring as Therion was his priority.

In late 2002 the band went into the studio to record their debut album "Riders of the Apocalypse", which was released in 2004 on Nuclear Blast. As Therion kept on touring during 2005, Christofer Johnsson made the announcement to leave Demonoid. He was very honest and said that he had no time or desire to do any touring with the band so it was time for the guys to find a new singer and although they had some names of people they might consider working with, there was one guy they REALLY wanted...

After a wet night out in Stockholm, Kristian met Caligula from Dark Funeral by accident and asked if he was interested in doing the Demonoid thing. After meeting the rest of the guys at Stockholms infamous Pub Anchor Caligula said - "Alright, lets do it"!!!! Now they had a vocalist that not only had THE voice from hell, it was also someone who had the attitude and power of a real frontman.

In the fall of 2006 Demonoid started writing material for the second album, and you can be sure that with Kristians amazing, blazing guitar playing, Johans in your face, tight and thunderous bass playing, Rickys fiery and explosive drumming and Caligulas powerful and don't-fuck-with-me attitude vocals, these guys are not only out for world domination, they will annihilate you.

The idea of making a project with more brutal music had for a longer time been in the mind of Kristian Niemann (the guitarplayer of THERION). There were earlier attempts to put something together, (along with his brother Johan) but by some reasons it never ended up in a finnished record.

So when the idea was brought up again, this time together with a third companion from THERION, Christofer Johnsson and the drummer who was working with THERION at that time, Rickard Evensand (later in in SOILWORK, now in CHIMAIRA), the results finally ended up in a finnished record to present to the world.

The musical concept is not to be original or to be symphonic like Therion, but to go back in time and create a fresh and challenging combination of basically old death and voilent thrash metal influences, but aslo with a drop of modern black metal into the pot. Both Kristian and Johan got into the more brutal forms of metal quite lately and so their references are rather Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir, while Christofer, being a growler in Therion in earlier days have experience of the thrash and death scene from late 80's and early 90's, rather would say Slayer, Bathory and all the old school death metal bands from those times. This is creating a very interessting combination, featuring both Kristian's more than excellent guitar work, Christofer's by far best vocal performances so far, Richard's intense technical drumming and Johan's intense bass lines.

Most of the music is written by Kristian and Johan, with some minor help from Christofer. As the captain of this ship, Kristian have been the main responsible person with arranging the songs and also much of the recordings in THERION's, very own MODERN ART studio.

The lyrical concept is done by Christofer and it is a story that is partly fantasy and partly based on theologicalcal and historical elments, that circle around the biblical Riders Of The Apocalypse characters.
