Biography

Vicious Crusade was formed back in March 1996 when a bunch of like minded students from Minsk Linguistic University started to practice together. The band's members included Dmitry Basik (vocals, guitar); Alex Vertel (guitar); Pavel Reunov (bass); and Alexey Gladysh (drums, keyboards). Their first demo was considered successful, which led to their first full-length album, Life That Kills, released independently in December 1996. Elena Gorshchuk provided her vocal talents for the album.

However, after some serious differences, Elena was replaced in mid-1997 by Alena Gornyh, whose powerful and versatile voice helped to shape the characteristic sound of Vicious Crusade: heavy metal with influences of thrash, folk and highly compelling female vocals. Meanwhile magazine articles and satisfying sales numbers combined to spread the popularity of the young band and a the Faces Of Vice EP was recorded to introduce the new female singer to the band's fan base.

In 1998 Vicious Crusade strove to increase their popularity by a nationwide tour. Their followup album, The Unbroken, was then released.

In the year 2000 Sergey Odinets replaced Pavel Reunov on bass, and violin player Bagrat Vartanjan join the group. Afterwards Vicious Crusade signed a deal with Metal Records.

The band produced another EP, Messiah... Isn't It Me?, which was released in 2001. The new full-length, Forbidden Tunes, was released in the spring of 2002, after which Alena left the band due to creative and personal differences with the band members. Later that year Tatyana Laboda, who used to sing in another band from Minsk, joined the band to fill the vacant job.

Private and professional requirements on behalf of the band members called for a long break in the band's activities. Four years later, Vicious Crusade began where they left off, with concerts in Minsk and Kiev.

In 2008 the band released a free-to-download internet single named My Cruel Mirror.
