Dragobrath is a black metal band from the capital of western Ukraine, formed in the ancient city of Lviv. The name of the band comes from the name of the old and famous Carpathian mountain: Dragobrath. It was chosen to underline the connection of band's musical conception with the old land of the Ukrainian Carpathians. The style of the band can be described as black metal with a mixture of atmospheric, aggressive and melodic riffs.
For Dragobrath it all started in 2004. Synevir recorded some material to be released. He began searching for a vocalist soon after recording the music. Krukh, who himself is well-known in the Lviv underground metal scene, was eventually brought in to handle vocal duties. Synevir and Krukh also participated (and in some instances, still do) in other bands in the Lviv area.
In 2005, work began on the first album; upon completion, Synevir and Krukh called it Scripture Of The Woods, made up of 8 songs composed by Dragobrath and a cover of Darkthrone's "Transylvanian Hunger".
The aim of the musicians was to perform something unusual. Unusual in the sense of the music itself in additional to the lyrical concept. The music was meant to combine speed and aggression with comparatively slow and melodic atmospheric sections. And of course the idea also was to create aggressive black metal. The recorded material was meant to be as raw as possible, but nevertheless listenable.
Near the end of 2005 Dragobrath signed a contract with Russian label Stygian Crypt Productions and at the start of 2006, released Scripture Of The Woods, which was limited to 1250 copies.
Krukh departed the band in the beginning of 2007. Soon after a new vocalist, Tchugaister joined Dragobrath. Recording began for the band's next release, and in autumn Polish label Eastside Productions signed the band to a contract.
In the beginning of 2008 the band's second album, And Mountains Openeth Eyes..., was released by Eastside Productions on CD format.
Near the end of 2009 the band's third album, Fra Myrer Taake, was released again through Eastside Productions on CD format. Keeping in line with classic black metal covers, the final track on the album is a cover of Satyricon's "Walk The Path Of Sorrow".
