Biography

Swordbearer is an epic folk metal project from the U.S., the creative concept of Rhode Rachel. Much like the ancient brave who explored uncharted dimensions for the promise of finding new destinations, by exploring the sounds heard only in the mind ? in the forests of thought ? Swordbearer strives to bring new life and spirit to the folk metal genre. Born in spring 2004, Swordbearer emerged carrying its own brand of impressions as an offering to the metal community. Favor with listeners has followed ever since. But what is "epic folk metal?" As simple as an answer might seem, it can only define this genre if it captures the wondrous atmospheres and vivid images that rise from the silence that precedes it. From Bathory-esque epics such as "On Idavoll They Gather" to beer-drinking anthems reminiscent of Korpiklaani, Swordbearer ventures far into reaches of the established past to gain its own momentum, propelling it to strike distant points only now coming into sonic view. In just one example from Swordbearer ? Rhode's organic acoustic work "Inspired by the Trees" ? the musical form frames an elusive emotion everyone may feel at some moment but might find intangible. Like the wind that passes before we feel its caress. As deep and far as passion reaches, from desperation to bravery, from hopelessness to victory, Rhode's music comes straight from personal experience and tribulation, while paying tribute to legendary influences including Bathory, Moonsorrow, Heidevolk, Korpiklaani, Nokturnal Mortum, Taake, Cruachan, and Finntroll. Experience Swordbearer as it casts its epic survey of Classical, Renaissance and early European folk music. Currently, Swordbearer followers await the debut album Inspired by the Trees which is nearing completion. Working with the moon, Rhode writes and records all lyrics and music at his studio in the hills of Hunterdon, New Jersey. He lays all instrumental and vocal tracks himself, handles the enigmatic production nuances that characterize Swordbearer, and masters the tracks. But not before many a sun rises. With Inspired by the Trees soon to be offered, Rhode is already seeking a label with which he can sign, an outlet that enables ? encourages ? the individuality of creativity. Those who know Rhode personally will avow that he always gives thanks to the sources of his inspiration. That includes you who would now join him and Swordbearer to take a melodic moment, make a harmonious trip, and become the collective voice that truly is one.
