Biography

Astriaal is a black metal band from Brisbane, Australia. The band formed in the winter of 1998 as a three piece with Baaruhl on both vocals and guitar. Astriaal released their debut demo 'Glories of the Nightsky' in October 1998 with Baaruhl playing both bass and guitar. Since the addition of bass player Murtach in 1999, Astriaal's line-up has remained solid.The band's first live show was as support to Nazxul in November 1998.

The legion of ASTRIAAL was given life in 1998, beginning with the dawn of the 'Glories of the Nightsky' demo tape, now considered an integral foundation in the ASTRIAAL soundscape. Over the past decade the accumulation of accolades achieved has been numerous with ASTRIAAL being considered one of the leading Black Metal exponents from Australia.
Their domestic tour supports have included Mayhem, Arcturus, Opeth, Destroyer 666, Suffocation, Nile, Deeds of Flesh, Incantation and Pungent Stench. The bands distinct sound was melded and refined in the foundry of the live arena, achieved through the execution of numerous Australian tours spanning over a decade.

After a nigh on seven year recording silence ASTRIAAL are now poised to return with their sophomore album entitled 'Anatomy of the Infinite'. This next opus is due to be released in the Autumn of 2010 for the southern equatorial territories via Australian label Obsidian Records. With this their follow up album to 2003's debut full length 'Renascent Misanthropy' one will notice a striking difference in production, tone and song structure.

Recorded at various studios within Australia and mixed at Mølla Lydstudio [Norway] with Knut Magne Valle [Arcturus], 'Anatomy of the Infinite' resonates with a more primeval and organic musicality throughout. Featuring eight tracks comprising of haunting and dissonant passages interwoven with moments of epic black metal grandeur overlaid with lyrical themes embellished in Abyssal theology. 'Anatomy of the Infinite' will indeed satiate the needs of those ardent adherents that have been anticipating the next chapter in the ASTRIAAL sonic landscape.
