Biography

Having released a few instrumental albums, the Danish guitarist, Torben Enevoldsen, needed a change of pace and decided to write an album featuring vocals. The basic idea was to simply put together a band of musicians Enevoldsen admired and would like to work with. So in the beginning of 2001, he began writing down names of musicians and started sending out inquiries.

The drummer of the German band Vanden Plas, Andreas Lill, was the first musician to join. Soon after, the former Lion's Share vocalist, Andy Engberg, joined forces with Enevoldsen and Lill, completing the initial Section A line-up.

Meanwhile recruiting members for Section A, Enevoldsen had been busy writing material for the band. The style would be a blend of very melodic hard rock and the more aggressive and complex progressive metal. While Enevoldsen was keeping busy writing the music, Andy Engberg and his friend Conny Welén wrote the lyrics.

The recording sessions for the first album began in the spring of 2001, and went on and off throughout the summer. Apart from all the guitars, Torben Enevoldsen did the bass and basic keyboard playing for the album. To add some flavour though, Enevoldsen decided to ask Derek Sherinian (Planet X) and Günter Werno (Vanden Plas) to participate, doing a few keyboard solos. They both accepted and their performances were nothing short of breathtaking.

By the fall the recordings were finished and soon after, the mixing and mastering was done resulting in the debut album: The Seventh Sign. The album was released by Lion Music and Marquee/Avalon in April 2003.

In 2004 Enevoldsen and Engberg decided to part ways with Andreas Lill due to location restraints. His replacement was former Lion's Share drummer Johan Koleberg. Together they recorded the second album entitled Parallel Lives. This album was a concept album and was released by Lion Music and Gencross in February 2006. The album features special guest appearances by Pontus Egberg (ex-Lion's Share) and Mats Olausson (ex-Yngwie Malmsteen).

Right after the release of Parallel Lives, Enevoldsen started writing new songs. Unfortunately Section A had to part ways with Johan Koleberg due to scheduling conflicts. Enevoldsen decided to ask an old friend and former band mate, Thomas Heintzelmann, if he would be interested in joining Section A. Heintzelmann jumped at the chance and the new line-up was in place. The writing and recording for the third album, Sacrifice, went on and off during 2007 and 2008. The album was finally completed in September 2009 and features a guest appearance by keyboardist Lasse Finbråten of Circus Maximus, who provided a few solos. The album is set to be released May 21, 2010.
