Biography

Ring of Fire is an American neoclassical power/progressive metal band from California formed in 2000. Fronted by former Yngwie J. Malmsteen collaborator Mark Boals after the release of his solo album Ring of Fire, the band also included guitarist Tony MacAlpine, Planet X drummer Virgil Donati, grammy-award winning bassist Philip Bynoe, and keyboardist Vitalij Kuprij. Ring of Fire released three studio albums between 2001 and 2004, as well as a live album, Burning Live In Tokyo 2002, as well as a DVD with the same title.

Their first album, The Oracle, was recorded with guitarist George Bellas, who was invited by Kuprij to replace Macalpine who was unavailable at that time. However, soon after the release of The Oracle, Macalpine rejoined Ring Of Fire. Kuprij left the band after the release of their second album, Dreamtower, and was replaced by jazz/fusion keyboardist Steve Weingart to record their 3rd album, Lapse Of Reality.

After disbanding in late 2004, Boals, MacAlpine, and Donati later formed Seven the Hardway. Kuprij continued his solo work and joined Trans-Siberian Orchestra. Boals was also the lead singer of Royal Hunt from 2007 to 2011. Macalpine joined the superband of instrumentalists which was named Portnoy Sheehan Macalpine Sherinian, in 2012.

In 2013, Boals, Kuprij and Macalpine started writing the new album which brought the Ring Of Fire back to life. Their latest album, Battle Of Leningrad was scheduled for release in January 2014 and credits ex-Stratovarius leader, Timo Tolkki on bass. The album is a concept piece and lyrically tells the story of people in Leningrad during the Siege Of Leningrad during WWII.
