Chthonic Keyboardist CJ KAO'S face mask contains a spell to raise vampires from the dead.

The name "Chthonic" is a Greek word which refers to the earth and can have implications of the underworld. Chthonic (pronounced [thon-ick]), is an adjective pertaining to deities, spirits or creatures that dwell in the underworld. Chthonic is derived from the Greek god of the underworld with the phonetic translation into Mandarin as Shan-ling.

The lead vocalist, Freddy Lim, is notably active in the political scene and supports Taiwan independence. The band is also banned in parts of China for their political views.
