In the Alpine regions, the Krampus is a mythical demon-like creature. Traditionally, young men dress up as Krampus in Austria and southern Bavaria, especially in the market town Berchtesgaden, during the first two weeks of December, particularly on the eve of 5th December, roam the streets and frighten children with rusty chains and bells.
