Celesty - Part Ways With Guitarist

Finnish power metallers Celesty have parted ways with guitarist Tapani Kangas. There was no friction or drama behind the scenes, the decision was deliberate and mutual.

Celesty is not looking for a replacement and continues as a five-piece. During the forthcoming live shows the rhythm guitar will be handled by Tuomas Laasanen. Celesty would like to thank Tapani for the past twelve years and wishes him successful career!

Guitarist Tapani Kangas comments: "12 awesome years, 4 albums, people, fans, shows and great memories. Unfortunately after a long concideration I have decided to separate ways with Celesty. I cant give the full concentration that the band deserves because of my personal schedules with work/music. Celesty and guys will always be in my heart, and these memories, years and friendship for life will never be taken away from me! Thank you and stay metal!"

Celesty - Vocalist Quits The Band, Replacement Announced

Original news, posted on 31.12.2009

Symphonic power metal band Celesty is sorry to announce that vocalist Antti Railio has decided to pursue a different path from the band.

The remaining members of Celesty would like to take this moment to wish Antti success in his vocal career but they are ready to take the next step for the future of the band. With this said Celesty is moving on and already in the throes of creating new and more powerful, innovative music for their next CD. While they are busy creating they are also in search of just the right singer to bring a new edge to their music. To pursue their newest project, Celesty will be holding auditions for a new singer soon.

Vocalist Antti Railio explains his departure: "I have already for a long time felt my place in Celesty to be merely an exit station in a long-overdue relationship that I just didn't know how to let go. I have not felt in a long time the joy and the passion that one should feel towards his or her own music... Thus I know want to concentrate to my own life and make music, as I, myself, see fit and without any outside/inside stress.

My strong opinion is that the music you do should come within your heart. With your own words, purely respecting one self, and the listener. That's why I'll now concentrate fully on my long-lasted dream, and accomplishing it with full concentration. My new band Iron Age Remains will see the dawn of light in January/February 2010!"

UPDATE (thanks to Bad English)

Celesty have tapped Tony Turunen (yes, the brother of famed ex-Nightwish vocalist Tarja Turunen) as their new lead vocalist.

"This feels awesome!" Tony admits. "This is a new and interesting challenge for me. I'm eagerly waiting to see what the future holds for me and the band."

Dozens of singers applied for the position, but in the end the decision was easy and unambiguous. "He's not only a great singer, but also a talented lead vocalist with a very powerful stage presence. Plus he's a great guy!" summarizes drummer and composer Jere Luokkamäki.

Celesty's search for a new vocalist began in December. Even if the band was sure who they wanted, the new vocalist had to wait for the confirmation until February.

"A good friend of mine mentioned that Celesty was looking for a new lead vocalist. Since I had listened a lot to their latest album Vendetta, I decided to apply for the position." Tony explains. "Of course I hoped they'd choose me, but I was still surprised when the band invited me to meet them in a studio. Eventually I recorded vocals for three songs in January. After some time, which actually felt reeeaaally long, the band welcomed me to be their new singer."

The cover art is almost finished and the name of the album will be revealed later. The new website is currently under construction and it will be opened before the end of this year.

"This is without doubt our best album! We're eagerly waiting to get it released, and after the release we're touring Finland the whole spring.", explains Luokkamäki.

Some of the shows have already been confirmed and the complete set of tourdates will follow on Celesty's website in the near future

Celesty - Prepare To Enter The Studio

Finland's Celesty have posted the following update on the band's official site :

"It's only two weeks and then starts Celesty's 4th album recordings and this time with Samu Oittinen in Fantom Studio. It's the third time when we do the album with Samu and the whole band is very exited to work again with him. We have done lots of work during this year with our new songs and it's going to be most challenging album in Celesty's history ever.

Upcoming album will be wider than ever before including the booklet. All the main characters will be introduced with pictures and there also will be an updated map of "The Land Of The Cryon", so album contains more visual theme than earlier. ToxicAngel will design the album cover. Because of the cover idea and Toxic's style I'm sure it's going to be an elegant cover "

Celesty - Line-Up Change On The Guitars

Celesty's guitarist J-P Alanen has left the band and was replaced by Teemu Koskela.
The band posted the following on the official website:

"We are sad to announce that our future with our long time partner J-P Alanen has ended.
The main reason is that J-P's musical interests have been elsewhere for a long time and Celesty needs more participation and hard work from all the members.

"Celesty thanks Juha-Pekka for all these years and the fun we have had together. We all wish the best of luck to J-P in his musical career.

"Our new lead guitar player is Teemu Koskela. He is a long time friend of the band and was natural choice for us. We have already started hard work together in rehearsals and Teemu is participating to the composing work as well. We believe that Teemu will bring lot's of new ideas to the songs and sounds in our future albums."

On the website of his second band Altaria J-P Alanen commented:

"There were difficulties between Celesty and the situation of my personal life. I'm concentrating more to my music studies, and also my musical taste, influences and attitudes have changed during the years. It was only a question of time. This decision won't affect to my playing in Altaria."
