00:03 - Korah Yeah, MS ratings on new albums are totally f****ed! You just have to watch ratings from 2000 and ratings from 2016! Metal was'nt so much better than today releases.
23:53 - Czerny Reiter There's a dearth of reviewers on the site and most of what gets reviewed ends up getting a good grade (on the grounds that pro-bono reviewers mostly review what appeals to them).
23:48 - Overrwatcher I feel as if SSUS's review backlash is a perfect example of this. When he gave a 2/10 people didn't say much. When he gave a 9/10 people questioned his review integrity.
23:42 - Overrwatcher I will always bring up BMTH's "There Is A Hell" in this regard. Very well received literally everywhere but MS. Here it's one of the lowest rated albums in the database.
23:38 - Overrwatcher Bands can put out similar quality records to 10 years ago yet get over 1 point less. People have been much more negative recently. And MS also seems to shit on some albums at random.
23:36 - Overrwatcher I'd say that MS is generally somewhat close to the general consensus, with exceptions. Melodeath gets overrated, metalcore underrated. And there is a notable difference in modern album scores.
23:28 - !J.O.O.E.! One could argue that that album's appeal is underground =V

Now they have revealed the album cover as well! The cover art was done by Teemu Tähkänen. The cover art is quite different from their previous one, what do you think about this one?
Finnish melodic death metallers Insomniumhave been in the studio forging a very special and bold release during the past few months. Titled Winter's Gate, it is a concept album made up of one epic 40-minute song. The album is built around a short story, "Winter's Gate" ("Talven Portti" in Finnish), written by vocalist and bassist Niilo Sevänen, recipient of numerous Finnish awards and nominations. The short story is about a group of Vikings who set out to find a fabled island west of Ireland, despite the treacherous winter drawing near. The full story will be released together with the album as a book with translations in English, Finnish and German, and illustrated by the artist Teemu Tähkänen.
Last week, Finnish melodic metallers Insomnium hinted that they were hitting the studio, possibly to start the recording for a new album. Insomnium can now reveal that they are on their last day of recording drums in SF Sound studio. So far, they haven't given the fans any specific details about what they are recording exactly, but it seems like we have to brace ourselves for some cold, shivering tunes.
The melancholic melodic death metal band Insomnium has posted a small statement on their own Facebook page today, and it reads: "Alright, it seems that we've booked some studios..." It seems that they are going to record a new album soon in the near future or at least another new release.
Bad news arrive from Insomnium. The Finns are currently touring in North America with Omnium Gatherum but are cancelling their upcoming European tour they had planned with Wolfheart. The band will still be playing a three-gig tour in Belarus and Russia in November (5-7.11) and all the booked one-off shows including Metal Hammer awards gig in Berlin (18.9), Geiselwind Christmas Bash (11.12) and 70000 Tons Of Metal 2016 cruise in next February. And they promise that they will be back in full strength.
Insomnium Gatherum is happening! The two Finnish bands, Insomnium and Omnium Gatherum, are joining forces for a 7" split. The melodic death metallers will soon tour in North America together. This release is "double A-sided" (meaning, each band has their own front cover side) and contains one track from Insomnium, "Out To The Sea" (which previously appeared on the now sold-out Shadows Of The Dying Sun deluxe CD box-set edition), and one track from Omnium Gatherum, "Skyline" (which will appear on the band's new album due out February 2016).
Earlier this year, Insomnium announced a new North American tour. However, guitarist Ville Friman will not be joining the melodic death metallers on this trek due to his very busy work schedules. In fact, the stand-in guitarist for the whole tour will be Nick Cordle (Sanctuary, ex-Arch Enemy, ex-Arsis).
Insomnium will be the special guests and accompany Ensiferum on their European tour next year. Ensiferum's European tour will then be an all-Finnish affair as Omnium Gatherum have also joined the bill. The trek will stop by Germany, Hungary, Czech Republic, France, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark and more countries.
Before they joined Century Media Records, the Finns Insomnium released their first albums through Candlelight Records, which will be releasing The Candlelight Years box set this November 24th. Covering the halcyon years that Insomnium spent with Candlelight Records, this 4 CD collection promises to deliver all the essential content any Insomnium fan would look for. Ranging from the epic label debut, In The Halls Of Awaiting, to the crushing 4th release Across The Dark, this covers the entire gamut of work created under Candlelight Records - including the extremely rare and hard-to-find demo EP Underneath The Moonlit Waves.
The Swedes Dark Tranquillity have toured with Insomnium before and now they are doing it again. This time, both bands are joining forces for a North American tour to happen at the beginning of next year. The last album the band released was Construct in 2013. As for Insomnium, they released a new album this year called Shadows Of The Dying Sun. Check out below the January dates for 2015.
