Kiuas - New Line-Up Announced

Guitarist Mikko Salovaara of Finnish power metal band Kiuas has issued the following update on the recent line-up changes:

"As our loyal followers (that's you!) are well aware, vocalist Ilja Jalkanen left the band to pursue other interests. However, it is not only Ilja who has been pondering the balance between Kiuas and other areas in their lives. Markku Näreneva (drums) duties as a parent and medical doctor have grown to the point where it is impossible for him to continue giving his total dedication to the band. Atte Tanskanen has found his passion with flying and after graduating from the Finnish Aviation Academy he has spent most of his time in the mile high club (and steering the aircraft as well every now and then).

As for the new members... Our new official keyboard player Jari Pailamo (ex-Twilight Guardians) has already played over 30 gigs with Kiuas and has practically been a sixth member of the band since the New Dark Age Tour in 2008, standing in for Atte when he was busy soaring the skies. Jari is a virtuoso player with a history of professional musicianship behind him and his knowledge and expertise is so extensive that he has been used as a consultant in the studio for the likes of Lordi.

The new vocalist Asim Searah is a young gem luckily discovered by a certain bald guitar player and has already displayed his talents with Kiuas on four gigs. Asim's clean and powerful vocal range can easily cover the world's metal and hard rock repertoire and he can shift convincingly from classic Dio-esque melodies to brutal death growls. He is also a competent guitar player and thus future shows will partly feature some serious twin guitar bombardment!

The new drummer, Rainer "Raikku" Tuomikanto (ex-Causemos, ex-In Silentio Noctis) is a well-known figure in the Finnish metal scene, an artist and a technical phenomenon in the highest league. He has performed on dozens of records and toured with many finnish bands and has now finally found his right place with Kiuas."

Kiuas - Singer Leaves Band

Taken from the official Kiuas website:

Hello folks! We have some startling news: our lead singer Ilja Jalkanen has decided to leave the band after some serious thinking. The reasons for this are purely musical and the chemistry within the band has always been great. In Ilja's own words: "My heart is not in heavy metal anymore, and a great band like Kiuas deserves a singer completely dedicated to the music."

However, as all the fans know, although Ilja has been the voice of Kiuas for many years, his contribution to the songwriting has been very minimal and thus his departure won't affect the bands musical direction or diminish the power of the music in the future in any way. The fact is that Kiuas will be able to continue it's musical journey with passion only without Ilja - this is the only way to go.

Unfortunately Ilja won't be able to perform the gigs we have booked for October 29th-31st. We we're on the verge of cancelling them, but luckily we were able to get talented vocalist Asim Searah to stand in for Ilja on those gigs. We apologize for announcing this so late, but we had agreed with the local promoters to do the UK tour before we announced Ilja leaving the band.

We also have some good news: Ilja will still perform a farewell gig with Kiuas in Helsinki in January 2011. The exact date and venue will be announced later.

Kiuas - To Enter Studio Next Month

Finnish Power metallers Kiuas have issued the following update:

"So, it's been a while since we've informed you of our comings and goings on, and there have been some questions and speculations as to what Kiuas is up to, or are we up to anything...

Well, fear not my comrades! To make a long story short: We'll be entering the studio no later than in the end of November, and start recording our fourth full-length studio album. There are about 10 new masterpieces almost completely written, which we are polishing and finetuning as I write these words. The album is set to be released in March 2010 in Finland, other areas TBA. Naturally this is and has been the reason for not doing gigs for a while, since the writing, arranging and practing of the songs demands our full focus. After the release, we will start touring, the dates will be announced once confirmed (but hold your horses until next year, kids!).

As to what can you expect: expect nothing and everything! After all, making a Kiuas record is like pouring dragon egg yolk, absinth and Tabasco into Frank Zappa's mouth while he's asleep and asking him to write a symphony about the dreams he had when he wakes up... although, ...well anyway... Or, going out with the members of Kiuas: you never know what's gonna happen."

The cover art is the product of the visionary artist/musician Niklas Sundin The picture is an original drawing in the style of renaissance woodcut illustrations, and portrays the members of Kiuas as the four - or in this case five - horsemen of the Apocalypse with a dismal landscape that combines ancient and modern times.

The song "Of Sacrifice, Loss and Reward" will also be released as a Single in Finland in February. The single will feature two other songs as well including the Japan bonus track which won't be otherwise available to fans in Finland.
