06:35 - Apothecary We'll just have to agree to disagree then, as much as I love both bands, I still consider Zeppelin and Deep Purple hard rock at the very most
06:34 - flightoficarus Big sale at Willowtip. Best band there besides Ulcerate and Gigan?
06:33 - Apothecary Doom/stoner/sludge has its roots in Sabbath, and power and speed/thrash in Priest. I'd say everything else was just bands taking those categories and then building upon them to create new ones
06:30 - deadone That doesn't preclude Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin being pioneers in heavy metal and as such considered part of the genre, even though they happily sit outside it sometimes.
06:28 - Apothecary You're probably right for NWOBHM, but I would say that was because they were mostly influenced by Priest, not Sabbath. I think those bands very much started two divergent roads in metal, but both were the unofficial "pioneers"
05:24 - deadone That's historical revisionism. Bare in mind most NWOBHM metal bands didn't do " dark, heavy." Most speed/thrash wasn't that heavy either. Indeed Sabbathian heaviness was kept alive by doom metal.

The band posted the following short statement about acquiring a second guitar player to the group ranks: "Allrighty! Finally it did happen. We found the second guitar player! And the new guy is Andhe Chandler from New Zealand. Yes, New Zealand is pretty far, but don't worry, it will not affect our gigs in the future. Now we can concentrate on the new material with full force!"
Finland melodic death metal band Mors Principium Est has made a 1:20 sample/teaser of a new song available for streaming online over at the band's MySpace.
Commented the band: "A lot of you have been asking how are things going and do we already have something new done. Well, things are going quite smoothly and we thought that, what if we upload one short, a bit over 1 min long, demo sample/teaser from one of our new songs for you guys to listen to."
The full song will be uploaded any time soon, so stay tuned.
Finnish melodic death metal band Mors Principium Est has just lost two guitar players, as both Kalle Aaltonen (Synestesia) and Tomy Laisto (Hateform) have left the band.
Vocalist Ville Viljanen commented as follows: "To be honest, things are pretty bad. Our guitar players feel that Mors Principium Est is not something they want be part of anymore. They have their reasons why they feel so, so...
Anyways. If we still want to continue with Mors Principium Est, we need new guitar players. This is our LAST try to make things happen. If it does not work this time, or we don't find the right person/persons, then it's game over for Mors Principium Est.
So, if you are, or know somebody, who is at least 21 years old, willing and able to write and play death metal with melodies and also would like to be a part of the new Mors Principium Est, then send us an email. YOU CAN BE FROM ANYWHERE. As long as you are eager and get something done, then you may be the one we are looking for."
Mors Principium Est vocalist Ville Viljanen has posted the following blog on the band's MySpace page:
"Yeah yeah, it's been a while since last time updated, but there hasn't been anything to update. Anyway, we are writing new material. Have been writing for a long time already, but it's not so easy to get something ready. Couple of songs are kinda ready music wise, but no vocal parts yet.
And this is especially for those people who are asking are we still alive or not and when is our next album coming out. Well, I don't want to sound rude, but if a band still has gigs to play, doesn't that mean that the band is alive??
And about the album. I will not promise anything, because I can't. I really don't know when do we have enough songs ready and also once we have about 4-5 songs ready, then we will start to negotiate with various record labels and that also may take a while. Sooo, IF we are really lucky, we could have a new album out at the end of the year 2010, but I personally think, that 2011 sounds more realistic. But like I said, I can not promise anything. We'll just have to wait and see how things go."
The following update was posted on the website of Finnish Gothenburg Metal band Mors Principium Est:
"Ok, let's start with some good news. We have found our new guitar players! Karri Kuisma is now our official member and our new solo guitarist is a dude called Tomy Laisto. Both Karri and Tomy allready played with us at the show in Turku (11.4.2007). Jarkko will still be a member of MPE, but he will not play any live shows.
And then some not so good news. We decided with Joona , that it will be the best for everybody that Joona will not be a member of MPE anymore. And the reason why is that Joona just simply doesn't have any time for MPE. At the moment we are not looking for a new keyboard player."
