Guitarist Øystein G. Brun from Norwegian black metallers Borknagar has posted the following announcement regarding the addition of drummer Dave Kinkade (Arsis, Malevolent Creation, Divine Empire, Council Of The Fallen) to the group's ranks:
"Dave Kinkade is the new drummer in Borknagar. His first appearance with the band will be the actual recording of the new album, which will be recorded early next year.
We are exited to finally get a new drummer behind the kit. We have spent quite some time and effort to find suitable and highly skilled replacement for Asgeir Mickelson. Dave has proven to be a fantastic drummer, become a good friend and he shares the same passion for music as the rest of us. We are truly confident that this cooperation will contribute to empower the music of Borknagar even more in the future to come.

Chilean Death/Thrash metaller Criminal have posted a new demo song entitled "The Infidel" on their MySpace page.
The band posted the following update: "So here it is, I finally got around to posting a demo track to our MySpace, hope you like it! It is not very compressed, so you might have to turn it up (which you should do anyways when it comes to Criminal!). We had a bit of an argument about this with our bass player Danny, who engineered and mixed the demo, and he was completely against over-compressing it just to make it as loud as possible, a pretty common controversy nowadays ("Death Magnetic" anyone?).
The song in question is "The Infidel", and it's about - you probably guessed it - religious dogmas and intolerance, and the right to stand up for the fact that THERE IS NO GOD. Musically speaking, it's pretty straight-forward thrash/death with some obvious Slayer influences, but I feel it has enough of our own ideas to make it really original and 100% Criminal!
Quo Vadis have announced the addition of vocalist Trevor Birnie (Damascus, Annex Theory) for the band's upcoming dates in October and November.

"I've grown as a vocalist, lyricist and performer over the past 5-6 years in bands and I feel that my experience and growth would definitely evolve with an opportunity of such honor."
Martyr drummer Patrice Hamelin, who has previously done session work with Despised Icon and Senate, will join Quo Vadis on tour and in studio. The announcement was the first in a series of lineup changes for Quo Vadis after the band's September 6 show in Montreal with Despised Icon, Neuraxis, Blinded By Faith and The Plasmarifle.
Slayer spent some weeks in the recording studio in late September/early October to record three new songs for their new album which will be released spring/summer 2009. A non-CD-quality version of "Psychopathy Red" has surfaced on YouTube and can be streamed here.

Queensrÿche is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on their 12th studio album, "American Soldier". The concept album, due this spring from Rhino/Atco, finds the band once again tackling some heavy subject matter, this time focusing on telling the story of war from a firsthand perspective. Singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate has spent the last few years conducting extensive interviews with veterans and has crafted their thoughts into this epic tale. "American Soldier" examines American wars from World War II through Iraq from the viewpoint of those in the trenches and on the frontlines. Following the album's release, Queensrÿche plan to present tracks from the album live on an extensive spring tour of the U.S., with international dates to follow later in 2009. The first date of the tour will be a hometown gig at Seattle's Snoqualmie Casino on April 16.

"It would seem as", though original frontman Robert Plant is not going to be part of the band's future plans. But bassist John Paul Jones has confirmed rumours that Led Zeppelin have been having regular rehearsals and are planning something big for the near future.
After confirming that "a couple" of singers have tried out for the band, JPJ went on to say: "We want to do it. It's sounding great and we want to get on and get out there."
On the subject of a new vocalist for the band, Jones said: "It's got to be right. There's no point in just finding another Robert. You could get that out of a tribute band, but we don't want to be our own tribute band. There would be a record and a tour, but everyone has to be on board."
