Behemoth - Nergal Diagnosed With A Serious Illness

Original news, published on 08.08.2010

Earlier today Behemoth frontman Adam Darski, aka Nergal, was brought to the hospital in Gdansk, Poland. He was diagnosed with a serious illness, the nature of which hasn't yet been revealed. He was admitted to the hematology ward, which indicates a blood disorder of some sort. Understandably, Behemoth had to cancel all the upcoming shows this year.

In a statement on the band's website, Nergal wrote the following (translated by Google): "I do not want to bore you with details, but I can no longer hide the fact that I am seriously ill and waiting for my multi-stage treatment, which can take up to several months. Thus, we cancel the coming summer festivals, the tour of Russia and the Baltic States planned for September and October, and the November tour of the USA.

I know that this is not the best news for you, but health is important. I've got a rather difficult period, and a lot of work, but steel becomes hardened in the fire, isn't it? You know me, so that you know that I'll get out of this stronger than ever. Then all the concerts also will go ahead as plan. At this time, I feel good, my head is focused to fight the disease, everything is under control by professionals. I have with me the most wonderful and loving woman, family, team, managers and people from publishing companies who are doing everything to support me. I do not ask you for more than just a little bit of patience. I would add that the fact that in the near future we will not be touring does not mean that Behemoth gets into hibernation. We have a lot to offer you in the coming months, Behemoth will work on many other fronts."

More news as we get it.

UPDATE

Metal Underground is reporting that the Behemoth mastermind has been diagnosed with leukemia. Further, it's also being reported by the Polish celeb website TVP that it has advanced past the point where chemotherapy would be an effective form of treatment and Darski will need a bone marrow transplant. His awesome fiance Doda has donated marrow to see if she is a match.

Behemoth - The New Video Is Online

Check out the brand new video for the track "Alas, Lord Is Upon Me" off Behemoth's latest release Evangelion below!

The video for "Alas, Lord Is Upon Me" was produced and directed by Rafal Szermanowicz and Grupa 13 who also shot Behemoth's videos for "Ov Fire and the Void" and "At the left hand ov God".

Nergal comments on "Alas, Lord Is Upon Me": "First of all, we've overcome ourselves with this new video clip. Period. It's something we've wanted to do for a very long time. Pretty much no digital intervention, no blue boxes, no fake shit this time, but great filming, good acting, and a fuckin' awesome storyline. It's disturbing, crazy, and evil. We've had over 70 people working for us on this video so we can easily say it was the biggest production so far. I'm beyond excited! Wait and see..."

Dariusz Szermanowicz of Grupa #13 adds; "This time we decided to make something different. We'd like to make video in 'cinematic' style without so many VFX like in last two videos. We found great location, we had dozen of actors and extras and awesome stylizing. During the 16 hours of hard work we've created amazingly killer video!"

In other news, Metal Blade Records in US and Peaceville Records in Europe will be re-releasing Behemoth's EP's Conjuration and Slaves Shall Serve as a 2CD set in early 2011. More info on this release will be made available in the coming weeks.

Behemoth - Frontman Formally Charged For Bible Destruction

According to Interia.pl and GazetaPrawna.pl, vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski of Behemoth was formally charged on Monday (March 8) for insulting Roman Catholics.

As reported by Blabbermouth, Darski made headlines in his native country in September 2007 when he reportedly called the Catholic Church "the most murderous cult on the planet" during a Behemoth performance in Gdynia and tore up a copy of the Bible onstage (see video footage here).

After the incident, Ryszard Nowak, head of the All-Polish Committee for Defense Against Sects sued Behemoth for promoting Satanism. Although a court expert witness on religious matters said that the act of destroying the Holy Bible could offend somebody's religious feelings (a criminal offense under Polish law), the case was discontinued because no one except Nowak accused Behemoth of insulting their religious beliefs. (Under Polish law, there must be at least two formal complaints before a charge is laid. The previous complaint was made in 2008, and recently an unspecified number of other complaints had been filed.)

Nergal is pleading not guilty to the charge.

According to Metal As Fuck, in the first hearing, under cross examination, Darski stated what he does on stage is part of artistic license and it wasn't supposed to offend religious feelings. However, an expert on religious history and studies from Jagellonian University in Krakow stated that every copy of a bible could be considered a religious icon.

There was no judgment ruled against Darski in the first hearing, but now that a second complaint has been filed, the matter will be heard by the courts.

IF(!) found guilty, Darski faces up to 2 years in prison.

Shining - Drop Off Behemoth's Evangelia Amerika Tour

Swedish extreme metallers Shining have dropped off the upcoming "Evangelia Amerika" tour alongside Behemoth and Septicflesh, due to work visa issues. All of the bands on this lineup exemplify the epitome of their collective genres' strengths and will be a dark and impressive sight to behold."

Lightning Swords Of Death's Metal Blade Records debut album will rear its head sometime during the spring of 2010. In anticipation of this album's release, the band will be touring the western and southern US during March of 2010 with Kreator, Kataklysm, Evile and Lazarus A.D..

Behemoth - New Album Details Revealed

Original news, posted on 19.05.2009

Polish blackened death metal band Behemoth has announced a new artwork and release date for an upcoming album ''Evangelion''. The new album is scheduled for relase on August 7 via Nuclear Blast in Europe and August 11 via Metal Blade in US. Album artwork can be viewed here: http://www.behemoth.pl/en/index.php?type=hi.

Commented Nergal:

"Evangelion combines a pure art form with a direct message. It was also important for us to ensure that the graphical presentation did justice to the record. Again, we have worked with Tomasz Danilowicz who has created his best illustration yet for Behemoth. The picture is of The Great Harlot of Babylon riding the seven-headed beast. Saints bow before her in worship whilst the tablets of the Ten Commandments lie broken at her feet. It represents our vision and the interpretation of the New Testament parable where the "Whore of Babylon" is a symbol of rebellion and resistance against God. I am fascinated by stories whose source lies in the Bible and we have used biblical symbolism, coupled with my own experience and outlook, in our lyrics or on the covers of previous Behemoth records. I love to juggle with meanings and play around with symbolism which is exactly what I have done in this case. The main character of our new cover is an archetype of disobedience, individualism, self-determination and a free, unfettered will - these are universal keywords which are typical and crucial in understanding the character of our works, life as a whole and the true nature of man."

UPDATE (Source: blabbermouth)

Behemoth will release their ninth full-length studio album, "Evangelion", on August 7 in Europe via Nuclear Blast Records and August 11 in North America through Metal Blade. The CD was mixed at Miloco Studios in London, England by Colin Richardson, who has previously worked with Machine Head, Slipknot, Napalm Death and Bullet For My Valentine among many others.

"Evangelion" tracklisting:

01. Daimonos
02. Shemaforash
03. Ov Fire And The Void
04. Transmigrating Beyond Realms Ov Amenti
05. He Who Breeds Pestilence
06. The Seed Ov I
07. Alas, Lord Is Upon Me
08. Defiling Morality Ov Black God
09. Lucifer

Behemoth - New Album Title Revealed

Polish extreme metalers Behemoth have set "Evangelion" as the title of their 9th full length studio album due out this summer. "Evangelion" marks the follow up to the bands extremely successful 2007 release "The Apostasy"; a release which saw Behemoth acquire the supporting slot to second stage headliners Hatebreed on Ozzfest which also featured Lamb Of God, Lordi, and Nile just to name a few.

Following Ozzfest, Behemoth co-headlined the Radio Rebellion Tour with Job For A Cowboy with support from Gojira and Beneath The Massacre with the band's final North American tour being a direct support slot to Norwegian legends, Dimmu Borgir. After a short break for writing, Behemoth entered Radio Gdansk in Poland to begin recording. "Evangelion" see's Behemoth, Daniel Bergstrand and Woytek and Slawek Wieslawscy as producers with Colin Richardson (Machine Head, Slipknot, Napalm Death, Carcass) set to mix the album.

Here's what frontman Nergal has to say; "I've had this title in my head for almost a year now and it grew on me. It sounds nothing but powerful and epic which perfectly mirrors the essence of the new album. "Evangelion" comes from a Greek word "Spreading the word of God" or "spreading the good news" ...oh well, you already know that we love to play with the meanings and symbolism. We're here to show you our interpretation of what "Evangelion" really is."

Details on "Evangelion"'s packaging, artwork, track listing, and pre-orders will be announced over the coming months so be sure to keep an eye on the band's sites and Metal Blade (US) and Nuclear Blast's (Europe) sites for further information.

Behemoth - New Album In Progress

Behemoth is in the final stages of the songwriting process for their upcoming, yet untitled album. The record is tentatively expected sometime in the fall via Metal Blade (US), Nuclear Blast (Europe). Nergal and Co. are planning to enter the studio in the middle of February. Behemoth's mainman Nergal has issued the following report:

"As I write this, we have seven songs that are completely written and arranged though there's still leads missing in some of them. It all sounds tight as fuck and very fresh! There are two more songs under working so after New Year break we should start working on it. I want this album to be very consistent, intense and catchy at the same time. Judging by what what's been composed so far, that's exactly where we are with this new material.

Last year was a very productive year for all of us? we've toured US, Australia and New Zealand, covered most of prestigious festivals in Europe and invaded virgin markets in Asia: Japan, China, Taiwan, Indonesia and Thailand. It was also the first time since ages that I managed to take two months off from any band activity. I travelled a lot, recharged my batteries and decompressed myself. I've been collecting ideas, riffs and pieces of lyrics throughout the whole 2008 but it was in October where I seriously kicked my ass and started full on work on the album. It went pretty rough in the very first stages but the more stuff was written the smoother it went."

I must confess that I'm way more excited about this record than I was for "The Apostasy". It's probably the whole label situation that we had to deal back then, Inferno's injury that caused crazy deadlines that completely drained the energy out of my system? I even started treating that album as unwanted child. Weird, because from time perspective it's a great one. This time though everything was planned much in advanced. I found time to live my life, get some energy back, get inspired and so on? when we met in October it was obvious that all of us were really hungry for making new music. It's definitely 100% Behemoth. I would risk to say that we do have our own style but it's still improving, evolving in different directions every time we approach new project. Most of the songs are the really fast, technical and intense, at the same time there's a lot of diversity. There's even a very slow, massive song that's probably the most epic tracks in Behemoth's history. Everything sounds more serious and? dangerous (I love that word, ha ha). There's probably more sinister vibe in our music this time too. I'm completely stoked and I just can't wait til we enter the studio!"
