Black Sabbath - No Reunion After All

After all the speculation of Black Sabbath reforming, Tony Iommi has posted a new statement on his official website calling the apparent reunion "absolute nonsense". Here is his statement:

I'm saddened that a Birmingham journalist whom I trusted has chosen this point in time to take a conversation we had back in June and make it sound like we spoke yesterday about a Black Sabbath reunion.

At the time I was supporting the Home of Metal exhibition and was merely speculating, shooting the breeze, on something all of us get asked constantly, "Are you getting back together?"

Thanks to the internet it's gone round the world as some sort of "official" statement on my part, absolute nonsense. I hope he's enjoyed his moment of glory, he won't have another at my expense.

to my old pals, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, sorry about this, I should have known better.

All the best, Tony

Previously...

In news that could potentially piss off any fan of Black Sabbath if it weren't true, the original Black Sabbath line-up (Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Bill Ward) has reformed.

Despite what Geezer Butler originally said, it has been confirmed that the four musicians have been secretly working on rehearsing for a tour and writing a brand new album. As stated by Iommi in an interview with BPM Media (Sunday Mercury, Birmingham Mail): "We're really looking forward to it and I think the stuff we've been writing is really good, it's more back to the old original stuff."

He also explained in the interview how Ozzy was the worst at keeping this project under wraps. "It's all been very hush-hush. Ozzy's been the worst at trying to hold it back. He's doing a lot of TV and he's being asked stuff about a reunion and he's going 'well I never say never'. He told me, 'I don't know what to say'." Iommi was also concerned with the performance of drummer Bill Ward, due to his health conditions and a heart attack that he suffered: "He hasn't been 100 per cent. He had an operation a few months ago, so we'll see how he is."

Ozzy Osbourne Discusses About The Possibility Of A Black Sabbath Reunion!

Last week Ozzy Osbourne stopped by the Rolling Stone offices to discuss his new album "Scream", his forthcoming world tour, the death of Ronnie James Dio and the possibility of a BLACK SABBATH reunion. "I love those guys ? Bill , Tony and Geezer ," he told Rolling Stone about a possible return to SABBATH. "I never say never anymore because you never know what's going to come around."

"I'm willing," Osbourne added. "But there are three other guys as well. It goes backwards and forwards. One day this, one day that. I'm up for it. But we'll see. If it's meant to happen, it'll happen."

Osbourne did admit that the prospect of the reunion is a little daunting. "The pressure of doing a new Black Sabbath album is enormous, and for it to be as good as what we did back then," he said. "It's been 30 years since we actually sat down and tried to write together, and we've all changed so much. I know I have."

Osbourne told VH1 Radio Networks' Dave Basner last week that the chances of another reunion of the original Black Sabbath seem more remote with each passing day. Ozzy explained, "To be honest, I don't think we all can physically do it. I'm up for it, I keep fit every day. I can't speak for the others. I mean, I've spoken to Tony Iommi, I speak to Bill from time to time. I haven't spoken to Geezer for a while, but if it's meant to happen, it'll happen."

Butler recently released a statement via his official web site in which he made it clear that "there will be definitely NO reunion of all four original members of Black Sabbath, whether to record an album or to tour."

Although Ozzy and Iommi had some legal issues in recent years over the use of the Black Sabbath name, that was all settled in 2010. Ozzy told The Pulse Of Radio at the time that he was still open to the idea of a reunion. "Well, I never say never," he said. "I mean, I've got a few ideas, but we'll see what happens, you know. We did try and do another album, but we've all changed so much and it's ? if you don't do an album that blows the doors off the last one that we did together, then it's gonna be looked upon as a joke, you know."

The original Sabbath lineup has not toured together since the summer of 2005, and last convened for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in early 2006.

Black Sabbath - No Reunion In The Works

Longtime Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler has shot down rumors of a Black Sabbath reunion with all original members.

Butler released the following statement: "I would like to make it clear, because of mounting speculation and rumours, that there will be definitely NO reunion of all four original members of Black Sabbath, whether to record an album or to tour."

The original Sabbath line-up of Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and drummer Bill Ward has not toured together since the summer of 2005, and last convened for their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in early 2006.

Turisas - To Release Black Sabbath Cover As Digital Single

Battle Metal warriors Turisas have released their digital-only single Supernaut this week. The single is now available through all digital platforms.

Since the feedback to Turisas' version of Supernaut on Metal Hammer UK's Black Sabbath tribute covermount CD was so positive, the band and Century Media Records decided to release an extended version of the track, featuring an additional one minute that wasn't available on the previously released version of the song.

The band is still busy mixing the upcoming, yet-untitled album with Jens Bogren (Opeth, Paradise Lost, Amon Amarth, Katatonia) at Fascination Street studios in Örebro, Sweden. The album was recorded at the Sound Supreme studio in Hämeenlinna, Finland and will be released in early 2011.

Black Sabbath - Guitarist To Undergo Hand Surgery

As posted by Black Sabbath's webmaster on the band's official website:

"A few years back, Tony Iommi had to have surgery for carpel tunnel syndrome. When I talked with him backstage after a 2007 concert, I asked him how he was doing with that, and said it was fine, didn't seem to be an issue. A little while ago, I had heard on the grapevine that Tony needed hand surgery, but since I couldn't get confirmation, I didn't want to post it here. There's enough rumour out there without me inventing more. So this morning, I saw an interview with Tony linked to from Blabbermouth, and it confirms the hand surgery issue. Whether or not it's a re-occurrence of the carpel tunnel or something else I don't know. I've attempted to find out from Tony's manager, but as of yet haven't gotten any details.

There's also that concert on the current tour where Tony had such severe back pain where he had to be taken out on a stretcher, and Ronnie, Vinny, & Geezer came out and apologized for canceling at the last second.

So hopefully Tony can get the surgery he needs, and that it's successful. That issue aside, the interview linked to is quite good. Talks about more than Tony's health problems. What Tony thinks of the new album a few months down the road, what it's like with different singers, and more details on his hand issue."

Black Sabbath - New Box Set Details

Black-Sabbath.com has posted the artwork for Black Sabbath's upcoming five-disc boxed set, "The Rules Of Hell".

A press release posts the following:

"Heavy metal pioneers Black Sabbath were reborn in 1980 when founding members Tony Iommi and Terry "Geezer" Butler added vocalist Ronnie James Dio to the lineup. The band's short but memorable time together added an unforgettable chapter in Sabbath's storied history. Rhino relives the demonic fury conjured by the Dio era with "The Rules Of Hell", a boxed set featuring all three of the band's studio releases ("Heaven And Hell", "Mob Rules", "Dehumanizer") and their double live collection ("Live Evil") - each recently remastered for the first time. The set comes packaged in a deluxe slipcase with extensive liner notes featuring all new interviews with the band. This five-disc boxed set will be available from Rhino on July 22 at all physical outlets, as well as www.rhino.com, for a suggested list price of $54.98. The set will also be available the same day at all digital outlets for a suggested list price of $24.99.

Two years ago, Dio, Iommi and Butler and drummer Vinny Appice reunited to record a trio of new songs for Rhino's Black Sabbath: The Dio Years before launching a highly anticipated and greatly acclaimed world tour under their new moniker Heaven And Hell. Revitalized by the reunion, the lineup is back in the studio now recording the first ever full-length studio album from Heaven And Hell, set to be released by Rhino in early 2009. To whet the fans' appetites for the new album, Heaven And Hell will return to the road for a short stint on the Metal Masters Tour, a month-long North American trek with Judas Priest, Motörhead, and Testament. This blistering metal juggernaut will launch August 6 in Philadelphia.

The Dio-era's first effort, Heaven And Hell, hit the racks on April 25th, 1980. Greeted by ecstatic reviews, the album peaked at #9 in Britain. In the U.S., its Top 30 success gave the group its first platinum disc in six years. Opening with the chugging anthem "Neon Knights", the album also includes the epic title track, "Wishing Well", "Die Young" and "Lonely Is The Word".

The group's follow-up, "Mob Rules", was the first without original drummer Bill Ward, who was replaced with Appice. The album bristles with Iommi's signature dark riffs, Butler's elaborate bass lines, Appice's hammering behind the drums and Dio's inimitable growling. The album includes the high-octane tracks "Falling Off The Edge Of The World", "Turn Up The Night", and the title track - plus the mid-tempo rocker "Voodoo" and the slow-churning epic "The Sign Of The Southern Cross", a favorite among band members and fans alike.
