Gorgoroth - Guitarist Released From Jail

Norwegian black metal band, Gorgoroth, posted the following message on their website:

"Infernus has been released on parole and is now working on new material, both music and lyrics for an upcoming album, title yet undecided. He is also, as we speak, having meetings with King and Gaahl for possible future touring etc. More info coming up soon."

In February 2005, Infernus was accused and convicted of raping a young woman at an after-party. She claimed she was kept hostage and abused for more than an hour before she managed to flee in just a towel. Infernus was found not guilty of the actual rape, but was still charged with his indifferent attitude as the rape was committed by a friend of his and he did nothing to stop it. According to Wikipedia, he was released on parole from prison March 6th, 2007.

In December 2006, also frontman Gaahl was released from prison. More about Gaahl's release here.

Gorgoroth - Riots in El Salvador

The following was posted on the band's official website:

"Gorgoroth made the headlines in the major papers in Latin America after performing a show which created big riots in San Salvador. The audience got so extatic over the presence of the first black metal act visiting their country that the situation got totally out of control. The secutity and the police could not handle the people outside the venue so they had to call in the special forces "del cuerpo de Proteccion a Personalides Importantes" (PPI). When the PPI reached the venue the masses of people not getting a ticket for the already sold out show kicked in the entrancedoor and lots of fighting between the audience began. The audience started to kick in doors and toilets, several injuries occured and major damages to the venue. The PPI decided in the end to use gas on the audience to get the situation under control. When Gorgoroth entered the stage 30 security people had to be on stage preventing the audience to enter it. The fighting maintained through Gorgoroths performance and the PPI and the police had to hold the audience inside the venue with firearms to get the band in safety. Gorgoroth came from the incident without any injuries."

Gorgoroth - news on Gaahl's trial

GORGOROTH vocalist Gaahl is facing jail time as he is being accused of beating a 41 year old man in what the victim called a ritual attack. Gaahl, 28, faced up to a nine-year sentence for threats and violence, but the prosecution asked for 18 months as the lurid trial headed to a close on Wednesday.

The Aftenposten English Web Desk adds the following to the story:

The victim, who has been on sick leave for the past two years after the alleged attack, accused the black metal singer of performing ritual violence that included tapping off his blood and drinking it, newspaper VG reports. Gaahl's mother testified during the trial and found the accusation of blood drinking particularly hard to believe.

"My son is a vegetarian and very fussy about food. He eats absolutely no innards. That is why I do not believe this at all," Gaahl's mother told the court.

According to the charges the 41-year-old was hit and kicked several times in the face and head and needed stitches to close cuts in his head. His nose was broken and he suffered major dental damage. Gaahl, who has several prior convictions including one for assault and battery, claimed that he acted in self-defense. The defendant was allowed to testify about his private life in a closed session at Sunnfjord court.

The Gorgoroth web site noted that the local community had 'pre-judged' their vocalist, and did not expect a fair trial.

Gorgoroth - Gaahl trial to begin on Tuesday

GORGOROTH have issued the following update at their official website (www.gorgoroth.org):

"The trial against Gaahl will start on Tuesday 27th of April at 9:00 AM and will take place in Sunnfjord tingrett in Førde (Sal 1).

He is accused of performing satanic rituals and torture lasting for several hours on the "victim". As the local community already have prejudged him, it seems that trial won't be much fair. Gaahl risk a 9 years sentence if he gets condemned. The press are welcome to be there and cover the case..."

In other Gorgoroth news, drummer Kvitrafn has left the band for personal reasons. His replacement is Frost (1349, SATYRICON), who will join the band in the beginning of May when the band start an intensive rehearsal period with main focus on a new recording.

The band also posted the following regarding their recent split with label Nuclear Blast: "Gorgoroth are relieved to inform that their cooperation with the German label Nuclear Blast is now ended. They have already received a good offer from another label, but nothing is signed yet."

Gorgoroth - leave Nuclear Blast

Norwegian black metallers GORGOROTH have parted ways with Nuclear Blast Records, according to a post on their official web site.

"GORGOROTH are relieved to inform that their cooperation with the German label Nuclear Blast is now ended," reads the post. "They have already received a good offer from another label, but nothing is signed yet. Check back later for more news about this matter."

Meanwhile, SMNNews.com is reporting that GORGOROTH's webmaster has revealed via a posting in the forums of Norway's Scream magazine that the band's drummer, Kvitrafn, has quit the band and has been replaced by none other than Frost (SATYRICON, 1349, KEEP OF KALLESIN).

GORGOROTH drew international attention in early February after they were accused of "offending religious feelings" during a concert in Poland. The band were also suspected of breaching the Polish law on protection of animals by displaying the severed and impaled heads of sheep as part of their stage act.
