Metallica - Mixing New Album, Out This Year
Metallica are taking their sweet time with the follow-up to Death Magnetic (2008). Now almost eight years later, their new album is being finalized, currently in the mixing stages. In a recent interview with Humanity magazine, drummer Lars Ulrich confirmed that their 10th album is coming out this year (tentatively in the fall) and you can expect a more diverse record.

Metallica - 'Master Of Puppets' Preserved By US Library Of Congress
Metallica's 1986 masterpiece Master Of Puppets has been preserved for posterity and is the first metal title to be given the honour of being added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress. The record was selected as one of the 25 new sound recordings added to the registry of works that are "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant."

Metallica - Share Two Live Songs From 'Ride The Lightning' Reissue
The Deluxe Edition of Metallica's milestone record Ride The Lightning is being released next month on April 15th via Blackened Recordings. Included in this edition are recordings of a show they headlined in San Francisco on March 15th, 1985. They headlined the second of two shows at the Kabuki Theater in San Francisco 31 years ago. Here's a little taste of the recording of that gig via SoundCloud below. It's "Motorbreath" and a cover version of the Diamond Head classic "Am I Evil?". Yes, I am.

Metallica - Unveil First Details Of 'Master Of Puppets' Book
While they continue to work on a new album, Metallica have collaborated with an award winning author named Matt Taylor on a book about the making of the band's classic 1986 album Master Of Puppets and the subsequent tour that followed its release. Fans shared photos, videos and stories with the band so that all pieces fit together. The cover of Metallica: Back To The Front, which is due in the fall of 2016, can be seen below for now. The book will be released as part of the 30th anniversary celebration of Master Of Puppets.

Metallica - Launch Reissue Project With 'No Life 'Til Leather' Cassette
Remember the 1982 No Life 'Til Leather demo? And cassettes? Well, Metallica will celebrate this year's "Record Store Day" with the release of an exact duplication of the band's 1982 demo tape as a limited-edition cassette on April 18th. The artwork was made from Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich's own copy and will feature his handwriting. At the time, the group consisted of vocalist/guitarist James Hetfield, lead guitarist Dave Mustaine (Megadeth), bassist Ron McGovney and drummer Ulrich. Some of the songs from this demo became classics of the band and all but "The Mechanix" would appear on their debut Kill 'Em All.

Metallica - Partner With San Jose Sharks For 'Metallica Night'
Metallica are going to hit the ice. After the band announced 2015's Metallica Night with the San Francisco Giants, the group will now appear at a game by the San Jose Sharks on January 21st. The team will play its rivals the Los Angeles Kings that night. Metallica are joining forces with the San Jose Sharks for a special night of metal and ice hockey.

Recently, Metallica announced the re-release of the film Some Kind Of Monster, which is set for November 24th on Blackened Recordings. This two-disc Blu-ray and DVD sets include Metallica: This Monster Lives, a 25-minute follow-up piece. Metallica - Deluxe Editions Of First Two Albums Coming
Metallica is seeking help from their fans while preparing remastered, deluxe editions of their first two classic albums, 1983's Kill 'Em All and 1984's Ride The Lightning, which they hope to put out in 2015. Anyone who has photos of the group and memorabilia or audio of concerts Metallica played around that time is being asked to submit them for possible inclusion in the reissues.
