Nevermore - Guitarist Launches Solo Project

According to Century Media, one of metal's most talented shredders, Jeff Loomis, of Nevermore fame will further prove his undeniable skills with his first solo project, which is set for a fall release. The ambitious offering is an all instrumental effort and is destined to shed some much deserved spotlight on the genre's most notable, yet unsung, guitar player.

Loomis states: "Hi everyone. I just wanted to give you all an update on the solo project. I entered Robert Lang studios on March 22nd with producer Neil Kernon (Nevermore) and drummer Mark Arrington. Mark completed the drums for 10 tracks in about three and a half days. He did some incredible drum work that I know will bring this record to a higher level than I expected. Mark and I worked before back in 1993-94 when he played half the songs on our debut CD. Being able to do this entire recording with Neil is really amazing as well. We've done some great work in the past, but being able to focus on an entire instrumental record is going to be great. Rhythm guitars will be tracked next. I'll keep everyone informed on the progress as we track for the next month."

Nevermore - Guitarist Parts Ways With Band

According to his official website, guitarist Steve Smyth has officially parted ways with Nevermore, citing personal and business differences.

"All things find their end eventually, and at this time I wish to make it clear that this was mutually agreed between the band and myself," Steve said in a statement.

"I will continue on with other aspects of my music career, including the upcoming release of The Esseness Project, an all-instrumental album in the vein of progressive rock that is now finished and being prepared for release."

He continued, "After a year and four months of being out of the touring scene due to ill health and then a kidney transplant, I have finally been given a full health clearance by my doctors to go back on the road, and I am now ready to return to the stage.

"I am proud and extremely honored to have been a guest of Uli Jon Roth at his Sky Academy concert series this past weekend, August 24th and 25th , in L.A. What an awesome experience! To jam with one of the greatest, as well as several other incredible guitarists and musicians who have been big influences on my playing over the years, and to make new friends as well, the whole thing was just incredible. Many thanks to Uli for inviting me, it was truly an honor!

"I am now embarking on a six-week of tour of Europe with my friends from the Danish thrash metal band, SPV recording artists Hatesphere, first supporting Behemoth in Poland, and then joining the Dimmu Borgir tour. I have been a fan of Hatesphere and friends with the band since 2003, when they opened for Testament at a festival we played together, and absolutely look forward to getting out with them and together, crushing Europe!"

Nevermore - Guitarist Posts Update After Kidney Transplant

Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth has posted the following update at his official website, after having a successful kidney transplant operation:

"The time has finally come to share a very important piece of news, directly related to my health. On December 12th, 2006, I had a successful kidney transplant! After 6 straight months on dialysis, changes to my lifestyle and diet, and a very thorough search for a suitable donor, by early August 2006, we had a preliminary match. Several rounds of blood and tissue typing tests had to be subsequently performed to ensure we were a perfect match for transplant; the main reason for my hesitance in saying anything publicly during those months.

The donor shall remain nameless, but my gratitude to him for his selfless act of kindness and friendship will endure forever! Thank you so much, you have no idea how much this means to me!

I am now on the road to recovery, as they say. This is mainly requiring a lot of adjustment to medications I will be on for the rest of my life, a small price to pay to be free from dialysis, and the restrictions it places on a person, both mentally and physically. I had no idea how much freedom I took for granted before all of this hit. 2006 was a big revelation of the frailty of human life for me, something I will not take for granted again.

Where does all this lead to next? I've been advised by my doctors that I will not be able to travel in any capacity for the next 6 months, as I have to adjust to immunosuppressant drugs to fight any possible form of rejection of the kidney, and my body needs time to recover from this operation, as well as dietary and lifestyle changes. All things that only make one stronger!

Obviously, my health must come first, but of huge importance to me is my loyalty to the rest of Nevermore, and as soon as I am deemed fit and ready to hit the road again, I will. I've already written 4-5 songs in various stages for the next Nevermore record, when the time comes to do one."

Nevermore - Postpones DVD Recording Show

Nevermore have had to cancel their showing in Bochum, Germany where they were going to film a live DVD. The reason behind the cancellation was because vocalist Warrel Dane surprisingly suffered from a virus. On the morning of September 12th, 2006 (the day of the show) he felt sick and he ended up having to see a doctor at a hospital in Dortmund, Germany.

Here is a comment by Nevermore's management/booking agency:

"Unfortunately we had been informed by the doctor in charge relatively late (around 17:30h) that Warrel was not able to do the show and as the doctor insisted on keeping Warrel at the hospital, we could not do anything else but make the artist's health priority.

Together with band and the local venue (Zeche in Bochum), we agreed to re-do this show on October 11, 2006, Continental Concerts indicated this at the entrance of the venue as soon as we had made this decision.

Of course, all fans can return their tickets wherever they bought them. Nevermore and Continental Concerts are very sorry that we had to cancel this show. We hope and expect Warrel to be able to leave the hospital today to do the shows with Disturbed as well as further headliner shows and after that adequately recompense as many fans as possible at the end of the tour in Bochum on October 11, 2006".

Here is a comment by Nevermore drummer Van Williams:

"Hello everyone, Van here, just wanted to let everyone know that we are very sorry we were unable to do the DVD show. Warrel had to go to the hospital in the morning of that day and doctors have kept him there due to him having pneumonia. We wanted nothing more and were all looking forward to this show with our fans. We realize many of you have travelled far to be with us and Warrel most of all wanted the show to happen. We will update you as soon as we can on his condition. Thanks for sticking with us and more news as soon as we have it. Cheers Van".

Nevermore - Guitarist Smyth Suffers Kidney Failure

Unfortunately we have to report that Nevermore guitarist Steve Smyth has been recently diagnosed with end stage kidney failure, the result of a congenital birth defect.

Smyth comments: "I have been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease, and have been advised to preserve my health as much as possible at this time, as I am facing 'complete renal failure' within six months, and ultimately, a transplant. Due to my recently diagnosed condition, I have decided not to join the band on the In Flames US tour. I want to be fair to the fans, and be able to give them a show I know I can deliver night after night. I will, however, join Nevermore on all four of the European festivals on our itinerary in early June: Gods of Metal, Rock Hard, Rott Fest, and Sweden Rock, after which, the doctors should have some news about the next step in my treatment. I will say this: I will fight this, and I will be back!"

Jag Panzer guitarist Chris Broderick will fill in for Smyth on the upcoming US tour, after which Smyth will rejoin the band for the aforementioned European festival dates. For more from Smyth about his health situation and future career plans, please visit http://www.stevesmyth.com .

Nevermore - New Album And New Video

NEVERMORE will be filming a video for the track "Final Product" on Saturday (June 11) in Los Angeles with director Kevin Leonard, who also directed the clip for NEVERMORE's "I, Voyager".

According to NEVERMORE frontman Warrel Dane, the artwork ? which was conceived by Hugh Syme (RUSH, MEGADETH) ? incorporates the "theme we've developed over the last few albums of everyone wearing a mask," he explains. It also ties in with the new album's title, which Dane says represents "the ongoing struggle between science and religion."

NEVERMORE recorded "This Godless Endeavor" at Backstage Studios in Derbyshire, U.K. with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, ARCH ENEMY, EXODUS, OPETH), who has previously worked with the band on their "Dead Heart In a Dead World" CD.

Nevermore: News About New Album & Remixing EoR

The Seattle-based quintet NEVERMORE are currently wrapping up the songwriting process for their highly anticipated new album, set for a summer release. In February, the group will head to Backstage Studios in England to begin recording with legendary producer Andy Sneap (ARCH ENEMY, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, OPETH). This will mark the group's first recording with guitarist Steve Smyth (ex-TESTAMENT). The band will proceed to debut some new material on a short European tour in March.

As previously reported, due to overwhelming demand, the group's critically acclaimed 2003 album, "Enemies of Reality", is currently being remixed by Sneap and will be repackaged with altered cover artwork, two promotional video clips (the title track and "I, Voyager") and a live video of the title track performed at Germany's Wacken Open Air festival this past summer.

The remixed "Enemies of Reality" will replace the existing version of the album in stores beginning in March. Fans who have already purchased the record and want to hear the new edition can special order it from the CenturyMedia.com web shop, where the CD itself will be sold individually (i.e., without jewel case and artwork) for $5, including shipping. The disc will be mailed in a CD sleeve; a link to a special web site containing the downloadable revised artwork will be included in order confirmation e-mails.

Warrel Dane (vocals) further describes his excitement over the album being remixed: "We're glad that we can all finally hear 'Enemies of Reality' the way it should have sounded in the first place. Andy's mixes sound brutal, and the infamous blanket of mud is gone. We're hard at work getting ready for the studio. The new material is shaping up to be some of our best work yet. We're psyched to get in the studio with Andy and tear it up again."
