A few months ago, Scorpions announced special MTV Unplugged acoustic shows in Athens, Greece. The group played two acoustic sets in the Lycabettus theatre of Athens. The open air theatre was designed by the Greek architect Takis Zenetos in 1965 and thus is just the same age as the story of the Scorpions. The band recorded these shows for posterity and will be releasing MTV Unplugged - Live In Athens on November 29th, available as double CD, DVD, Blu-ray and in various other digital and physical configurations.

It seems like they abandoned their retirement plans as the band announced last year that they were working on unfinished songs from the early 80s, leftovers from the Blackout album and Love At First Sting. The quintet has worked on a dozen tracks with producers Mikael "Nord" Andersson for an album that is tentatively scheduled for release later this year.

Scorpions - To Break Up After World Tour

German hard rock legends Scorpions are calling it a day. The band's last album Sting In The Tail will be out on March 19th 2010, with a world tour following the release. The official word from the band reads as follows:

"It was always our pleasure, our purpose in life, our passion and we were fortunate enough to make music for you - whether it was live on stage or in the studio, creating new songs.

While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was - and how much fun we were still having, in the process. But there was also something else: we want to end the Scorpions extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we've always had since the beginning. This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road. We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years.

We want you, our fans, to be the first to know about this. Thank you for your never-ending support throughout the years! We uploaded the very first snippets from our new album for you, available here. And now... let's get the party started and get ready for a Sting in the Tail. See you on the world tour."

Scorpions: Releasing New album in April

Veteran German hard rockers SCORPIONS have set "Unbreakable" as the title of their new album, tentatively due in April. An as-yet-undisclosed single will precede the album in March. The band are also working on a DVD which should be released later in the year.

As previously reported, SCORPIONS - who recently announced the addition of Polish bassist Pawel Maciwoda (SECTION 31, URBANATOR) to the group's ranks - completed the recordings for "Unbreakable" at Peppermint Park Studio in Hannover. The album is expected to feature a return to the band's classic hard rock sound following a foray into a more dance-inspired direction on their last studio release, 1999's "Eye II Eye".
