Spiritual Beggars - Licensing Deal For Japanese Release

It's official. Spiritual Beggars have pretty much been the busiest band in the last two months. After parting ways with singer JB earlier in June, the Swedish metal band went ahead and got another vocalist, clinched a record deal with InsideOutMusic, and are now on the brink of releasing their 7th studio album - the first in five years - entitled Return To Zero (all album details available here).

And then yesterday, the band signed a deal with Japanese label Trooper Entertainment Inc, founded by legendary Japanese heavy metal music industry guru Mr. Tetsu Miyamoto. The Japanese release date has been set for August 25.

Guitarist Michael Amott (yep, that Michael Amott) comments: "The team at Trooper Entertainment Inc. are the same great people that have done so much for my career in Japan for many years now. I am very much looking forward to getting the new Spiritual Beggars music to Japanese fans in August and playing over there in October!"

The band has also been confirmed for the Loudpark 10 festival, set to take place October 16-17 at Saitama Super Arena, a multi-purpose indoor arena located in Saitama City, Japan.

Spiritual Beggars - New Album Details

Sweden's Spiritual Beggars finally return to the spotlight with their first new studio album in five years, Return To Zero. Once again, the Beggars effortlessly manage to confirm they are a band that continues to defy musical boundaries and that delivers Classic Heavy Rock at its very best! The artwork of the upcoming album is done by the well known Brazilian artist Gustavo Sazes.

Spiritual Beggars's guitarist Michael Amott (Carcass, Arch Enemy) states: "I'm extremely pleased with the Return To Zero cover! To me, it's the quintessential Spiritual Beggars artwork. The artist really managed to capture the essence of our band, the new album and the constant flow of cryptic ideas I was throwing at him! As I'm old school, I can't wait to see this in its full glory on the vinyl LP... But hey, it'll look cool as a minuscular image on your iPod too!"

Return To Zero will be released in Europe on August 30th via InsideOutMusic.

Spiritual Beggars - Part Ways With Vocalist, Replacement Announced & New Song Sample Online

Official press release

Spiritual Beggars have parted ways with vocalist JB, and welcome their new singer: Apollo Papathanasio.

Michael Amott comments: "This will be a surprise to most of you, but it's been mutually decided for some time now that JB would step down from his role as the singer in Spiritual Beggars to focus on his own band. We had a fantastic time working with JB. We remain great friends and we wish him the best of luck!

"We decided to make a new Spiritual Beggars record and to find a new voice - and we found a killer singer that lives in our hometown. Some of you will already be familiar with him as a singer in the Greek metal band Firewind.

"We've had a blast in the studio and it's been highly satisfying on a creative level. We have already confirmed some shows in Japan later in the year and we are in the process of booking more concerts around the world. We are looking forward to getting the new music out to the fans and playing live again"

A short sample of new song featuring Apollo Papathanasio on vocals is available now at the Spiritual Beggars' official MySpace.

Spiritual Beggars, the Swedish band featuring Arch Enemy guitarist Michael Amott and bassist Sharlee D'Angelo, is currently mixing its first new studio album in five years for a late summer/early fall 2010 release. The CD was recorded at Sweetspot Studio with producer Rickard Bengtsson.

The band previously stated about the new effort, "We used a lot of vintage equipment in this process and we got some really amazing tones.

"To describe the music itself, we feel the songs are strong and melodic with a lot of '70s and early '80s hard rock atmosphere?

"If you are a fan of our albums On Fire and Demons, we are pretty sure you will also enjoy this next chapter..."

Spiritual Beggars - Update On New Album & DVD

Greetings Dear Begheads,

It's been very quiet here lately?this is mostly due to all members of Spiritual Beggars working with their other bands and commitments (Arch Enemy, Grand Magus, Opeth, Firebird?).

But here are some Spiritual Beggars news and facts?

We have signed a new licensing agreement with Toy's Factory for the Japanese market and they have set a release date for the new studio album - 23rd of February 2005. This date might still change though.

The title of the new studio album is "DEMONS".

We have put together a bonus disc of live material from Tokyo, Japan 2003 that will come with the first pressing in Japan. Hopefully we can make the bonus CD happen in Europe and US too. We don't know yet.

We have still not decided on who'll be releasing the album in Europe and the US and other territories outside of Japan.

We have been working with a guy called Paul Smith in London, UK on the editing of a Spiritual Beggars DVD, and I must say that the rough cut looks fucking awesome! The 5.1 surround mixes (and the regular stereo mix) by Andy Sneap, sound really, really killer too! This DVD is going to ROCK your TV! Finally, fans of the Beggars will be able pick up a quality DVD release?it's exciting. Also, our friend Mikael Eriksson compiled our DV cam footage from the road in 2003 and made a neat 25 minute film/montage feature that shows us jamming in the BBC studio in London, Ludwig getting tattooed in Osaka, Japan?ogling the babes on the set of the video shoot of "Killing Time" ?and plenty of other stupid stuff in between! Also, interviews with JB and myself will be on there - cryptic ramblings of possibly quite mad men! The title of the DVD is "LIVE FIRE!" - No release date as of yet?we'll keep you posted!

We'll be back soon with more details on the new studio album and DVD?

Spiritual Beggars wish you all a happy and successful New Year!

Spiritual Beggars - news on the forthcoming album

Here is a statement made by Michael Amott, from the official website of the band:

"Although there's been little to no activity here at spiritualbeggars.com over the last few weeks, interesting things ARE happening in the Beggars camp! First off, we mixed the new album with Fredrik Nordström (he was assisted by Patrik J. Sten), and the result is truly great! We had a lot of fun during the mix, and we did it all in 5 days! A very good mix with a cool atmosphere!
We have also mastered the album with Göran Finnberg, he has mastered the last couple of Spiritual Beggars albums, he really knows the Spiritual Beggars sound very well and he made this thing shine - it sounds wonderful now!
A special mention needs to go out to Rickard Bengtsson in Slaughterhouse Studio, who also put a lot into the making of this new Spiritual Beggars record - cheers mate!
The album artwork is also very close to being completed. We have Niklas Sundin from "Cabin Fever Media" working on this - and it's looking really?eh, RED! It all ties in with the overall feel of the album, the title, the music? We'll be posting artwork samples here within a few weeks I am sure.
Next week the band will be getting together for a photo shoot - promotional shots that will appear around the release of the record.
Licensing deals are being negotiated right now for this album and our future releases - I am hoping well have something to announce soon about that.
That's it for now, more news to follow?

Michael Amott"

Spiritual Beggars - FINALLY BREAKING THE SILENCE

Spiritual Beggars are entering Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden next week. They are working with producer Fredrik Nordström again (who produced the bands previous albums "Ad Astra' and "Mantra III').

Guitarist Michael Amott comments; "We have been working on this new music for over a year, on and off. We have got a great collection of songs that we think are of a slightly heavier and more intense direction than the songs on "On Fire' (2002). The spirit of HEAVY rock is still alive and well in the camp here and it´s all smiles as we rehearse this stuff, we just know this is going to sound absolutely HUGE when we lay it down on Fredrik Nordströms Studer 2' tape machine!!!'?
