The Gathering - Working On New Material

Vocalist Silje Wergeland has issued the following update on behalf of The Gathering:

"As I write this a little storm is coming in over Holland. It has been some amazing summer days here, and now it seems like Thor (or Tor as we say) is riding across the sky with his hammer smashing clouds. We are having a BBQ so fingers crossed he is off for some sleep or go for some mjød soon!

Saturday we played in Roermond for the first time. The nice people behind Rockschool Open Air put up this festival for the first time and had no one less than their major and people from the local government attending. All festivals needs some time to establish, and there are always a few hiccups here and there. This year someone - I think he has a Norse origin - were a bit too enthusiastic behind his drum kit kicking through the bass-drum skin (how metal is that!). It took some time to get a new one, so the sets of the bands later had to be cut a bit short. We had a nice time there though, and especially for me meeting up with the Bergeners of Batallion. If you have ever met anyone from Norway, you know the Viking way of drinking. There were no exceptions Saturday...

This gig was our last before the summer kicks in. The plan is now to fully focus on making a new album. We already have around 7 songs we are working on and we are all super enthusiastic about them! We are in a very creative place at the moment, ideas are flowing! We found a new place we will do preproduction of the new songs. Very cool and relaxing place. It is really fun for me this time to be part of this song making process from the beginning. A few days ago Frank and me sat down with a brand new song we ended up really happy about. Today I am off to work in the studio with René on some other new songs. I can't tell you much about the direction of the songs, but I can say it is going really well! And one more thing: the Gathering never stops surprising."

The Gathering - Announces Dutch Try-Out Dates

Drummer Hans Rutten of The Gathering has posted the following update on the band's website:

"First of all: we will do a couple of try out gigs before we start the festival season. We will play in Heerlen and Purmerend, both located in The Netherlands. Please note these are try-out gigs. Things will go wrong. But that's also the fun part, we just play and we will see what happens! Both evenings will be a lot of fun for sure.

Today we received "The West Pole" vinyl test pressing. As we are living in a digital world I forgot the sound of a black 12 inch on a turntable. It is incredible! The sound is so much warmer, rounder, the high tones are crispy, bass sounds so creamy... Well I can go on for a while, but above all be sure you grab a copy of "The West Pole" on vinyl before they cost 200 dollar on eBay! Btw, it is a double album, 180 grams, specially remastered for vinyl, and with a different running order. Still available at our webshop, but we will only make 500 copies (limited), and they go faaast."

In other news, a new song from the upcoming album "The West Pole", called "No Bird Call" is exclusively available for streaming on the band's webshop with a quite higher quality than the MySpace player.

The Gathering - New Singer Announced, Audio Samples Online

Dutch metallers The Gathering have issued the following update:

"Hi all!

Yes, finally we are back! Fresh new start, brand new homepage, new songs ("All You Are", "Treasure" and "The West Pole") on our revamped MySpace, and you can order great packages at our webshop right now!

But first of all I like to announce Silje Wergeland as our new vocalist! Silje has been the singer of the Norwegian band Octavia Sperati for 8 years including several other projects. She did a superb job, as you can hear on our MySpace and new Gathering album "The West Pole". More info about Silje soon. This album also includes two very talented guest singers: the Dutch Anne van den Hoogen and Mexican Marcela Bovio (from Stream Of Passion), and some other guest musicians.

What can we say about "The West Pole"? It's a very vital, atmospheric and extravert rock orientated album, with all the quality and power The Gathering is so famous for, also with many new elements. The sound is guitar driven, alive and urgent; a strong and beautifully coloured album with haunting female vocals. It's produced by guitar player René Rutten and mixed & mastered by Zlaya Hadzich (who also did the production of "Souvenirs'" and René.

I hope you enjoy listening our new songs and our new homepage and MySpace.

Cheers!"

"The West Pole" cover artwork] tracklisting:

01. When Trust Becomes Sound
02. Treasure
03. All You Are
04. You Promised Me A Symphony
05. The West Pole
06. Capital Of Nowhere
07. No Bird Call
08. Pale Traces

The Gathering - New Album In April

Drummer Hans Rutten of the Dutch metal/rock band The Gathering has issued the following update:

"The waiting is over. Well... almost!

We are very happy and proud to announce the release of our 9th studio album in April 2009! The album will be called "The West Pole". You probably are curious who is singing on our new record. We have found a new vocalist, and we will have two guest singers on "The West Pole".

We can imagine people are anxious to hear some of our new music. However, we will not make it to put new songs online this year. The reason is that some of our guest musicians still need to be recorded and we prefer to present only complete version of the songs. As soon as we have mixed and mastered the album we will put some tracks on the web and of course you will be informed with all possible details. We believe, after hearing the new songs, you will agree the waiting was worthwhile!

We are very, very proud and we feel we made something really special. The album is produced by René Rutten, it will contain 9 tracks and will be released on our own imprint Psychonaut Records. It will be a very extravert, rock orientated, alive album. Typically The Gathering, but with many new elements. This time it's absolutely guitar driven. For sure.

"The West Pole" will be available via our own webshop one month before the actual release date. Like our DVD "A Noise Severe" we will make special packages. More news will follow soon."

The Gathering - New Album On The Way

The Gathering have posted an update on their official website's forum about the new material they are currently working on.

"Dear all,
Sorry it has been a while since you've heard from us. We apologize for this. It actually means that we have been really busy with the band. During the last couple of months we created a lot of new ideas that lead to the first songs of our upcoming CD. Yes, we are working on a new album! Or actually, two new albums! Many of our new songs are very rock and guitar orientated and will end up on a heavy rock album for sure. The second album will be filled with more 'shoe gaze', dreamy tracks.
We can imagine if you are very curious about new vocalists. Currently, we are working with several. It feels very refreshing and interesting to work with different voices and it adds beautiful new colours to our music. Names will be presented as soon as our ideas become more concrete. As promised you will hear new material by the end of this year. The release of our new album is planned for Spring 2009.
On behalf of the band,
Hans Rutten"

The Gathering - DVD/CD On The Way And Band Infos

The following message was posted on The Gathering's official website:

"Dear all,

Hope you are all fine and well. I have some updates for you:

A Noise Severe DVD and live CD:
Yes, we are almost ready with our double DVD A Noise Severe as well as our double live CD. The end of this month we will master both.
A special package will be on presale on our webshop very soon, together with more info, such as running order, info about an in-depth documentary of the recording of our album Home and much more. Expect a webshop release somewhere end of July, and in 'normal' shops around October 2007.
It will be a release to be proud of!

Celebration the 10th anniversary of Nighttime Birds:
Not so suprising news: Century Media will re-release Nighttime Birds as a double CD with new artwork in Europe the 27th of july 2007.
We only saw the artwork, and it looked really chique. It seems it will come with an extra CD containing bonus tracks which were also released on our 'B sides' albums.
So no new tracks! I don't know if the album will be remastered.

Home vinyl:
The vinyl release of Home is going that quickly, it is almost sold out.
The End Records only has some black vinyls left. So hurry!

Auditions:
We have recieved a mere 170 demo's. Thanks a lot! Yes, it is still possible to send out your mp3's to: audition:(AT)gathering(DOT)nl. Especially male vocalist are welcome to send their demo's, as we are still in search for both males and females.
The audition will close when we have made a decision, so go ahead."

Cheers!
Hans

The Gathering - Anneke Is Leaving The Band

Posted by the band on the official site:

Dear all,

We are very sorry to announce the fact that Anneke has decided to leave the band in August 2007. Anneke has several reasons not to be a member anymore. We really regret the fact we could not find a way to continue together. However, we will be working on new material with male & female vocalists. Expect a CD release somewhere in 2008.

With Anneke we've made great albums and did fantastic shows, which we are very proud of! We had a great time! We wish Anneke all the best for the future.

The remaining festivals we will play together with Anneke. No new gigs will be scheduled. The last gig with Anneke will be the Ankkarock Festival in Finland, the 4th of August. Also the new DVD 'A Noise Severe' as well as the double live CD will still be released this summer.

Frank, Hans, Marjolein & René.
