Eïs - Part Ways With Vocalist And Both Guitarists

German black metal band Eïs (AKA The Artists Formerly Known As Geïst) have parted ways with 3/5 of their lineup, namely vocalist Cypher D. Rex and guitarists Hedrykk F. Gausenatt and Zyan.

Comments band mastermind Alboîn Goldmund:

"It doesn't feel good, but I've to say that vocalist Cypher D. Rex and guitarists Hedrykk F. Gausenatt and Zyan are not part of the band anymore.
Let me explain - but before that I wish to thank all three guys for many years full of blood, sweat and tears and for everything we created together. I'm full of pride.

There are moments you just feel that something has to change. For me, such a moment had come. I felt more and more of a stomach ache with the direction the band took within the last one and a half year. The album being in progress during the last months - mainly with inputs by Cypher and Hedrykk - didn't feel like an Eïs album for me, even if that is a very subjective interpretation of course. It came clearer and clearer to my mind how important this band and everything it stands for is to me, and that I neither could nor wanted to live with any musical compromise in Eïs.

For such reasons, Marlek and me will continue Eïs as a duo, and in a more resolute way than ever. We're planning to record our fourth album in Spring, and this will take us back to our own musical roots. Of course you'll witness us on stage again as well, together with some session musicians.
This is no comfortable path at all, but it's very uncaging, because it's our path. Or, said with Aínvars words from "Wanderer bei Fels und Fjord": Wir leben fort - wo sind eure Spuren? (We live on - where are your marks?)"

Ozzy Osbourne - Suffers From Laryngitis, Forced To Cancel Tonight's Graspop Appearance

Legendary heavy metal singer Ozzy Osbourne, designated Saturday headliner of the Graspop Metal Meeting taking place this weekend in Dessel, Belgium, had to cancel tonight's performance as he suffers from severe laryngitis and his doctor has ordered an immediate 72 hours vocal rest before further evaluation.

Comments Ozzy: "I was so looking forward to performing at the legendary Graspop Metal Meeting. It really pains me to let people down and it is with great disappointment that I am unable to perform for the great fans of Belgium."

The festival schedule has been modified accordingly. Former co-headliners Judas Priest will now headline on Saturday in a two-hour performance featuring a special laser show. Morgoth - Reunite, Announce "Cursed" Anniversary Shows

German classic death metal act Morgoth has announced its reunion after being on hold for the past 14 years to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their seminal debut album "Cursed." The first announced anniversary show will be at Death Feast Open Air, taking place from June 23rd-25th, 2011 in Hünxe, situated in Germany's Ruhr district. The official statement reads as follows:

Ever since Century Media Records re-released the 1991 Morgoth album Cursed in 2006 as well as a Best Of compilation one year earlier, there have been constant rumours circulating about an actual comeback of Morgoth. These rumours as well as several offers from festival promoters have finally challenged the band to actively celebrate the 20th anniversary of the original release of the Cursed album by playing some selected festival shows in 2011. The setlist will consequently mainly consist of songs from the Cursed album as well as some cuts from the classic 1989/1990 EPs Resurrection Absurd and The Eternal Fall. The band's line-up for these special shows is almost confirmed by now as well and will consist of Marc Grewe (vocals), Harry Busse (guitar), Sebastian Swart (guitar), Thilo Mellies (band) as well as a great drummer, soon to be announced.

Vocalist Marc Grewe comments as follows: "Throughout the next months we will make sure to prepare a great show for us all to celebrate together in 2011. We seriously look forward to seeing old friends, peers and faithful supporters of the band again as well as playing to new audiences during the upcoming string of festival shows."

The first confirmed date for Morgoth in 2011 can now also be revealed: The band will appear on a headlining slot at the 5th edition of the Death Feast Open Air 2011. Death Feast takes place June 23rd-25th, 2011 in Hünxe/Germany and other heavy-weight death metal acts to appear will be Grave, Vader, Pestilence, Krisiun, Misery Index and Gorguts, to mention but a few. More details can be found here.

Within Temptation - Sharon Den Adel Pregnant, Tour Rescheduled

Dutch symphonic metal outfit Within Temptation has announced that singer Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt are expecting a baby. The band's upcoming tour, which was scheduled from February through April 2011, has been rescheduled to the fall of the same year. Already acquired tickets remain valid for the new dates, which can be found below the official statement.

States Sharon den Adel:
"As we are all gearing up for the release of our new album I have news which might come as a surprise: Robert and I are expecting a child. To be honest, this was not planned at all, but we're very happy about it as we experience our kids as an enrichment of our lives.

I'm happy to tell you that the release of our new album will not change: March 2011! The recordings for the album are completed and the songs are being mixed right now, all preparations for the release are in full swing, so there is no reason to put things on hold.

However, we couldn't avoid rescheduling our tour as it will be impossible for me to deliver a great show for you while being in the final months of my pregnancy. Also due to the complications during the previous pregnancies it is dangerous for our baby and for me to be very active in these final months.

The tour dates have already been re-scheduled to the fall of 2011. The tickets you have bought will remain valid for the new dates which can be found on this page . We understand that the re-scheduling of our tour is a blow for you and we can only sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused as we very much appreciate the fact that so many of you have bought tickets for the shows early on.

We hope for your understanding and support and we'll do everything to make the up-coming tour the best you've ever seen from us yet!"

The new tour schedule reads as follows:

21-09-2011 - NED, Heerhugowaard, Waerdse Tempel (originally scheduled for 25-02-2011)
23-09-2011 - NED, Tilburg, 013 (originally scheduled for 27-02-2011)

Wacken Open Air 2011 - First Bands Announced

The Wacken Open Air 2010 has just closed its gates, but the first bands for the 22nd edition of the world's biggest metal festival have been announced already:

Tobias Sammet's Avantasia will perform their only festival show in 2011 at Wacken Open Air. Just like in 2008 Avantasia will once again gather a whole lot of great names of the rock and metal scene on stage.
Apocalyptica are the second band confirmed. After performing a 45 minutes surprise set at this year's edition they will deliver a full show in 2011 again.
Also Blind Guardian are confirmed for Wacken Open Air 2011, which will be the band's only show on German soil next year.
Last, but not least, American crossover heroes Suicidal Tendencies will be playing at Wacken for the very first time.

In earlier news Canadian death metal battalion Kataklysm, who had to cancel their appearance at this year's edition, have already been booked for the 2011 edition as well:
"Unfortunately we just cant make the trip to Wacken this year, the organizers have been kind enough to rebook us for next Wacken 2011... of course if the world still exists, so we apologize to all you maniacs that wanted to see us destroy Wacken this year... you'll have to wait next year!"
The same might apply to Primal Fear who also had to cancel their attendance at this year's edition and have been proffered to make up for it in 2011.

The presale of the W:O:A X-Mas-Package will start on Monday, 9th August 2010 at 00:01 a.m. CET.
