According to a posting on the Facebook page of Tim Butcher - Lemmy's longtime bass technician - former Motörhead guitarist Michael "Würzel" Burston died yesterday (Saturday, July 9). The cause of death was not revealed. Würzel was 61 years old.
Before joining Motörhead in 1984, Burston had been a corporal in the Army, serving in Germany and Ireland with the 1st Battalion of the Gloucestershire Regiment, and had played in the bands Bastard and Warfare. Joining another relatively unknown guitarist, Phil Campbell, they played together at a Motörhead audition, and both were taken on.
Burston acquired the nickname Würzel while in the Army, being compared to the character Worzel Gummidge due to his scarecrow-style hair and bumpkin-like manner. Lemmy reportedly demanded that Würzel add an umlaut to the "U" in his name, for "heavy metal effect."
Therion mainman Christofer Johnsson has announced the addition of vocalist Linnéa Vikström - the hot blond daughter of vocalist Thomas Vikström. She'll be replacing tour vocalist Katarina Lilja, who left the band back in March in order "to sit at home with the boyfriend and just have a regular job."
Johnsson wrote the following: "We are hereby proud to announce the person who will be filling the infernal shoes of Kat (the Evil One) for the upcoming Therion tour activities. It will be no less than Linnéa Vikström, the daughter of Thomas. She sang on Sitra Ahra and enchanted many listeners with her charming and diverse presence. From being the cute little spawn of Thomas, she has now been growing to a woman and she is ready to help us carry the flag of Therion around the world.
Megadeth is confirmed to headline the Maquinaria Festival, taking place at Club Hipico in Santiago, Chile on Saturday, November 12th. The rest of the line-up for the festival is yet to be announced.
Tickets go on sale Wednesday, June 15th. The Maquinaria Festival is said to be an event which gathers different musical styles and brings the grandeur of European festivals of music, mixing different forms of art and consciousness.
Earlier this week, Megadeth only managed to play a six-song set in St. Petersburg, Russia. Apparently frontman Dave Mustaine collapsed (that was a lie, he didn't collapse, he only passed out for a while, our apologies for any confusion, ed.) before the European Carnage Tour show with Slayer (that other band full of old men), and was found to be suffering the effects of a kidney stone. Medical experts wanted to send him to the hospital immediately, but Mustaine insisted on playing at least a short show.
Mustaine issued the following long-winded message explaining the events: "Last night I was getting ready for the concert, and two hours before the show, I started to feel like I had a hernia, or more like I had been hit in the groin.

Brian Johnson, the band's lead singer, gave an interview in February confirming the latest release. However Johnson wouldn't be drawn on whether we can expect to see any live action from the band in a hurry. "After that we haven't made any plans," he said. "We just want to have a rest, because we were on the road for two years. We played in front of five million people, and we deserve a rest."
