Roadrunner Records have announced plans to release an exclusive digital EP soundtrack for the highly anticipated PlayStation3 exclusive videogame, "God Of War III". The EP, titled God Of War: Blood & Metal [cover art], will be released in March as a part of the God Of War III Ultimate Edition, and will feature five exclusive unreleased songs from Roadrunner artists, including Killswitch Engage, Dream Theater, Trivium, Opeth and Taking Dawn.

Consumers who purchase the God of War III Ultimate Edition will receive a voucher code to download the tracks, as well as downloadable music in the form of the God of War Trilogy soundtrack. Fans will also receive a special code to download a director's cut of "God of War: Unearthing the Legend", a full-length movie documentary depicting the history of the God of War franchise, access to an exclusive "God of War Challenge Arena" environment with up to seven unique challenges, an exclusive Kratos skin, and a limited edition art book. The "God of War III Ultimate Edition" will retail for $99.99 (MSRP).

"I have played the previous God of War releases," said Killswitch Engage vocalist Howard Jones. "To be a part of this game in any fashion is amazing! Let the rivers flow red with blood; there is vengeance to bestow! Bring me more new finishing blows to my enemies!"

"Music has always been an important part of videogames and can help bring titles to life," said Stig Asmussen, God of War III Game Director. "Our goal is to make God of War III a special release in all areas and this just another way to offer fans and newcomers a worthwhile experience."

"This is the first time in 24 years that we've written and recorded a song for anything other than one of our own albums, so we're up for the challenge and excited to have been asked," said Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy about recording an exclusive instrumental track for the soundtrack.

"When we were initially asked to write an original song for the game, we were slightly perplexed since we've never actually written a track for something other than a Trivium record," said Trivium, vocalist Matt Heafy. "But we answered the call as we are fans of the game. Writing the song was a fun experience. We started piecing riffs together on tour and then we really put time into the song when we got home and had the chance to go into the practice space to work on our ideas as a group. This new song captures a certain energy we've been trying to harness on record as well, as it will show all our fans worldwide where Trivium is heading musically in the future."

Developed by Sony Computer Entertainment's Santa Monica Studios, the God of War video game brings epic battles to life with stunning graphics and an elaborate plot that puts Kratos at the center of carnage and destruction as he seeks revenge against the Gods who have betrayed him. Such an awful soundtrack for such a good game...
AngelofDeth - 22.12.2009 at 19:15
Those bands suck
THE_BLACK_GOD - 22.12.2009 at 19:25
In facebook Ive read that Opeth's song is not released yet. a new song.
MetalSpider - 22.12.2009 at 20:46
Don't care for Killswitch, I hate Trivium, never heard of Taking Dawn.

Dream Theater seems like a weird choice for God of War 3...but you never know how it might turn out.

As for the mighty Opeth...I can't wait to hear what they will pull off for God of War 3.
DieH@rd - 22.12.2009 at 21:01
Opeth? I'm intrigued...
Overlord_PT - 22.12.2009 at 21:28
I thought this would be something interesting since a saw "roadrunner records" written on it (r.r suck)
Varegan - 22.12.2009 at 21:38
This bands are not as epic as the game it look like commercial shit...
LeChron James - 22.12.2009 at 21:59
Uuuuuuuuugh come on, no one cares about the soundtrack to videogames. do something worthwhile!
routa - 22.12.2009 at 22:17
As long as the game is devoid of any of those bands, who cares.
-DC-002- - 23.12.2009 at 00:50
Dumb Crap.
BreadGod - 23.12.2009 at 01:19
I predict that it will suck just like everything else that Roadrunner released in the past decade.
DoomGuard - 23.12.2009 at 02:30
What the fuck, fuck fucking fuck!

This game is amazing, but the bands chosen for it are the worst, I'm not happy...not happy at all

still excited for the game though
SBGMetal - 23.12.2009 at 02:45
Heavier music would have suited the game better,,, it looks like it will be an awesome game though
bard - 23.12.2009 at 04:36
Hmm...it's too bad they didn't go more like Nuclear Blast instead. Get some bands like Nile or Behemoth, that would fit. [/bitch]
wormdrink414 - 23.12.2009 at 05:40
The bands suck, but I guarantee the game will very metal (metal being a new adjective). The first God of War is the most metal game of all time.

Well, God of War is a very popular and comercial game... I suppose the bands are pretty fitting in that context.

OK, I maybe the only man alive to feel this way, but i gotta say it - I absolutely HATE this game...It's a complete and utter mockery of Greek mythology...not that Americans give a crap about mythology, Greek or not...
Thorion_Covenant - 24.12.2009 at 17:37
God of war is my absolute favorite video game. And I've gotta say if one game deserves to have a metal track it's this one. God of War is pretty brutal. The guys who made God of War 3 apparently INVENTED part of the game engine where when you eviscerate your enemies the guts fall out realistically. I can't wait for this game.

As for the album? I couldn't care less about the bands on it.
Muhannad Saleh - 25.12.2009 at 17:32
Whats funny is there is 1000 of metal bands folk ones mostly that can do a better job in doing this than the bands they picked .. as for god of war damn that is one hell of a game
SlaytallicA - 25.12.2009 at 18:06
I'm looking forward to this game!
Lord_Regnier - 26.12.2009 at 02:11
I sincerely hope the game's soundtrack won't be made of metal songs because if it's the case I'll have to turn the music off.
When I'm playing games, I don't want to hear metal music in the background but symphonic or atmospheric music.

I will most likely buy the regular edition. Special or ultimate editions never worth the difference you pay, anyway.

99.99$ (US, I believe). Fuck off.

So you hate the movie 300 as well?
Games are not supposed to be historically/mythologically accurate.
cj246 - 07.03.2010 at 01:16
The artists do not execute their full potential in their contribution to the album. It does not flow well and not all songs are appropriate to the video game. Here's my full review:

I love God Of War. Among my favorite videogames.
I hate 300. Ludicrous garbage. Almost as stupid and godawful as Beofulf (the movie).
