Megadeth are gearing up to record their as-yet-untitled new album with producer Johnny Karkazis (Machine Head, Disturbed). The album is slated for a fall 2011 release through Roadrunner Records, with drum tracking due to begin next week at Vic's Garage studio in San Marcos, operated by band leader Dave Mustaine. Johnny K replaces Andy Sneap (Nevermore) behind the board, who was forced to pull out due to scheduling conflicts.

Stay tuned for updates on Megadeth's follow-up to 2009's Endgame which debuted on the Billboard 200 at #9!

In other news, Mustaine has launched a new project called Red Lamb with former Anthrax guitarist Dan Spitz, Accept bassist Peter Baltes and Yngwie Malmsteen drummer Patrick Johansson. Most of the music will be taken from Spitz's aborted Deuxmonkey project with ex-Crimson Glory frontman Wade Black, which fell apart when Black quit back in April due to creative differences.

Johnny K is also on board to produce the album.

Red Lamb? Really?

Agreed. Wtf?! My money says that this will either sound like a Megadeth clone or Dave Mustaine quits the band before recording because the rest of them will not let him tell them all what to write...
Void Eater - 12.05.2011 at 02:58
Red Lamb is a crap name, Dave never fails to devilver. Well, except for Risk and TWNAH... But other than that it's al good.
ScreamingSteelUS - 12.05.2011 at 03:21
This is a true supergroup. I sincerely hope it doesn't fail, because it sounds like a wide range of styles are going into this thing and that could produce interesting results.
Yojimbo - 12.05.2011 at 04:01
Groan. Is that name some kind of Christian reference?
Aetherius - 12.05.2011 at 04:50
Red Lamb, lol.. I am curious what it will sound like though!

"April due to creative differences."

He agreed to play shows with his mortal enemies both this year and last year
Zaphod - 12.05.2011 at 08:28
If he's gonna form another band, then why didn't he get Jeff Loomis and Mike Portnoy or Van Williams, they're all free I'd love to see that band...
Justice - 12.05.2011 at 09:48
And guys... please tell me who is vocal in this project Dave

I agree, judging by the fact Dave likes to be in control of the music writing process mainly by himself, I don't think he will last long in this project.
And what's with all the christian bs all you guys talking about? I think it's just a stupid band name without any meaning whatsoever.

Good point, but is Dave really gonna be able to collaborate as a second banana with someone else? Maybe he's changed....

Exactly, Dave said himself that the main reason he's still making music is because of the money.

Did you even read it? Dan Spitz is the one who "didn't agreed", not Mustaine.

Nah I'd rather see Broderick leave Megadeth and then start up a new band with Jeff and Van and grab somebody like Steve DiGiorgio for bass and I cant even imagine who would make a great vocalist for this band...maybe I'll start a forum thread about this...
Edit: Aha I figured out how to make this EPIC!!! Jeff Loomis, Van Williams, Chris Broderick, Steve DiGiorgio, Mustis and Roy Khan!!!

The creative differences part was about how Deuxmonkey didn't do well, not Megadeth.
snake? snaaaake! - 12.05.2011 at 21:54
Dave is pretty much my favourite vocalist. But his voice has completely gone. I'll probably check this band out but i'd rather have his vocal duties confined to Megadeth.

Actually I heard that in another interview Dave said that the music in Red Lamb is kinda like Disturbed or something. Immediately I became uninterested in this thing.
