We can reveal that the new Opeth album will be titled Heritage. The record is due for release through Roadrunner Records in September. More details to follow soon.

The album was recorded earlier this year at Atlantis Studios in Stockholm, Sweden. Heritage was engineered by Jens Bogren (Soilwork, Katatonia, Paradise Lost) and mixed by Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree). The new material has been described by the band as "good."

YES, moar Opeth

When "The throat of winter" was released it left me even more impatient

And Steven on the mix, hope this album has all those "ambient" noise BWP had
Tetravirulence - 25.05.2011 at 21:12
The only thing bothering me that its mixed by Steven Wilson

The new lineup just doesnt go with ambient and Steven Wilson, hopefully i am wrong on this
NocturnalStalker - 25.05.2011 at 21:17
I have no doubts it will be good as they mentioned. I just hope it will be another step forward in terms of musical diversity as "Watershed" was.
Dark†SymphonY - 25.05.2011 at 21:43
GOOD?? Opeth's albums have been more than good.
MetalVegeta - 25.05.2011 at 21:45
At least its coming out in September and not later in the year. Watershed, imo.. was great. Heir Apparent and Burden were my 2 favs
DorianGray - 25.05.2011 at 21:51
Yay ! Moar Opeth ! MOAR
peterthegreat - 25.05.2011 at 22:02
Agreed with everyone saying Watershed was great, cuz it was(is).

Trufax, another Watershed is what this honky wants.
Sammol - 25.05.2011 at 22:34
Hmmm. I'm guessing that Steven Wilson will be the new keyboardist. (atleast a session member)

If ever there was a time to listen to everything Opeth has put out, it is this time. I've only heard Watershed. Fan boys/girls, tell me the best Opeth album to start with and/or your favourite Opeth album.

Best album IMO, Blackwater Park. Also is the one which most fans coincide
My fav after that one is Still Life

Damnation is the album everybody likes (all ballads, no metal or growls) and if you liked Watershed most likely you will also like Ghost Reveries

I really envy you and all the guys that are about to "discover" Opeth, It was a really exciting and joyful process for me.

Blackwater Park is the closest you'll get to a consensus but there really isn't one as opinions vary dramatically. I only ever listen to Blackwater Park and Watershed, even though Watershed is regarded by a lot of people as one of the weakest. I don't like Ghost Reveries even though that's regarded as a strong one. You get the picture really.
Pyramid God - 26.05.2011 at 01:50
Blackwater Park is what I would and did start with.

I like Ghost Reveries the best though.
FrozenJoy - 26.05.2011 at 02:01
I'm not sure about this... I didn't like Ghost Reveries and Watershed much... Agree with Unhealer saying that Blackwater Park is their best effort...
It would be cool for the band to go back a bit in style, I think they're slowly decreasing the quality of their releases, so I kinda distrust their "good" impression of the material...
Dark Blood - 26.05.2011 at 02:57
Hmmm... I don't think 'good' is enough for Opeth. If this album will actually be good I'll be disappointed.
Richard - 26.05.2011 at 03:22
From what I can gather, Opeth always seem to be relatively 'down to Earth' with regards to their status and popularity. I remember an interview where Mikael himself suggested that maybe there was too much hype about the band!

So they don't want/need to sound arrogant, and are being humourous as well by not doing the typical thing bands do with a new album, saying "this is our best album yet, the best music that men have ever made!" or whatever, but just saying it's "good"!
BlankFile - 26.05.2011 at 03:44

Anyway looking forward to this one!
Black Conundrum - 26.05.2011 at 04:21
I'm certainly looking forward to this one. They are great musicians, and while the last one may not have been my favorite (it was still great, though), this one will be worth investigating.
koob - 26.05.2011 at 07:06

There is no single album in Opeth discography that outshines all the others. My personal favourites are Still Life, Deliverance (the one I discovered Opeth through), Ghost Reveries, Morningrise and Watershed. But I suggest you start with the first album (Orchid) and go until Watershed to feel for yourself the band's evolution.

Opeth never disappoint.

Couldn't agree more.

Still Life. Then Deliverence and the first two albums (Orchid and Morningrise). Don't bother with My Arms, Your Hearse if you've heard those 4.
I don't get why Blackwater Park is so populer, I reckon all the other albums, apart from My Arms, Your Hearse, are better.
Kuroboshi - 26.05.2011 at 10:11
What! Blackwater Park, Still Life and My Arms, Your Hearse are my favorites! The last one especially. But as everyone says though, you can't really go wrong with Opeth. I guess that Orchid is a bit hard-digested at times though.

Highly original band, with every recording progressing and reinventing their music.

Great news. Hoping that Mikael will strike us again with his songwriting abilities and hoping it's all fresh .

Thanks, guys! You have been a great help...
I'll listen to albums based on the general consensus and how they have rated particular albums. And hopefully before Opeth's newest, I will listen to them all in order.

Akerfeldt has a dry sense of humour. Really looking forward to this album.
StarBarer - 30.05.2011 at 05:57
