Fairytale Abuse - Call It A Day

After 12 years, Danish melodic black metal outfit Fairytale Abuse has decided to call it quits. The band posted a lengthy statement on their MySpace page: "The band's decision is made mutually between the band members and comes as a natural decision after long periods of inactivity. But also several external and internal causes had impact on the decision."

"Fairytale Abuse has struggled for years with being some sort of outsider in the Danish metal environment due to the unorthodox and alternative approach to the genre. Therefore they have found harder conditions than most. Fairytale Abuse has especially in Denmark has been the victim of "the law of Jante" practiced by certain people and media in the Danish metal environment for not being true to the genre. Nevertheless, the member's belief in their own style was so dedicated that it has given the band many loyal fans around the world."

"Lead singer Simon Pedersen expresses that getting opportunity to perform the music you like and getting it released is one of the most excellent things you will ever experience as a musician. But he also says that this particular feeling is what may become many new metal bands early demise. "You're willing to go much too far to get a little forward with your music - and unfortunately there are some people out there ready to take advantage of that." This has, unfortunately, especially in recent times also for Fairytale Abuse been very true. Among other things, a promised European Tour with Six Feet Under went into the sink because of German based Kraft Events / Bruchstein Records and company owner, Falco Rausch. Kraft Events deceived the band for a substantial sum of money based on a lengthy tug of war around incredibly unfair tour conditions. This was a very destructive event for the motivation of the band and took all the energy out of what the band should spend time on - to make music. The band has not yet received the owed amount back and would warn others who would be tempted to contract with that company."

"However, there have also been many positive experiences. Fairytale Abuse was able to remain No. 1 in its genre at the now outdated mp3.com which was a large and popular website for musicians. The first place resulted in a U.S. tour in 2001 when the band was contacted by a local concert promoter from the east coast of USA. This was a milestone in the band's history and resulted in many new fans."

"The conclusion for Fairytale Abuse is that it has been an exciting and eventful 12 years with both ups and downs. Unfortunately there are people in the metal world that are totally ruthless and money-focused and have a total lack of insight into what playing metal entails. Fortunately, there are also many enthusiasts who do much for the music. Fairytale Abuse is playing 2 of their last concerts on 14/10 at Tante Olga in Randers and 29/10 on Gyngen in Aarhus together with Svartsot. 'We are ready to kick completely ass at our last couple of concerts, so we hope as many people as possible show up' the band's guitarist, Michael Alm, expresses with a twinkle in his eye."

"Fairytale Abuse would like to say thanks for all the great experiences around the venues and the incredibly dedicated and loyal fans all over the world. It is because of the fans that the band, after all, has been around so long. Fairytale Abuse will also send a thank you to all former members of the band's, former members which have all helped to further develop the music and been true to the band's style. The band members are now considering if they should look for other opportunities - in metal of course."
