He hyped this thing so hard after his little departure with Interscope, and claimed it would be some sort of "emotional return" to the music of old or whatever, but this just sounds like the most watered down, simplistic alt-rock garbage going. Music created by a rich man completely out of touch with his former self.

The "No Reflection" single sounded like it took too many liberties with lifting "Fuck the Pain Away" by Peaches, and the Carly Simon cover (featuring Johnny Depp on drums, as if that matters to anyone) is among the least inspired covers I've ever heard. Just because you don't sound like a girl doesn't mean you gave it your own voice.

If you're into some stale radio rock, this is a really good album for you.

Sounds better than his last few albums, but not a patch on the old days.

Yeah but that's not a big problem for me, in fact I once liked a few MM songs too and I think the guy is really smart, but it somehow doesn't fit in here.

I can tell you right now Marilyn Manson has more "right" to be in a metal webzine's band database than a lot of stuff we currently have featured here.

I can also agree on that, but whatever it is what it is. No matter what band there are always people whining from both sides of the medal.

This is so deprressingly uninspired and forced. Manson had so much vitality in him, some of the old songs were explosions of energy, especially a few ones on "The Golden Age of Grotesque" (KaBoom Ka-Boom, Use Your First and Not Your Mouth, This Is the New Shit). In the field of intelligent industrial metal he was sometimes on a par with the best of the best, Nine Inch Nails, especially on his masterpiece, "Antichrist Superstar". All that ended with "The Golden Age of Grotesque", the last really good release. Since then he's released only mediocre albums, and this one is no exception.

He is no more the anti-christ superstar, no more the mechanical animal, no more at holy wood either.
Manson, that fucking king, is already dead.

I have to say the years when John5 is there are the best years of the band.

I wonder if Manson knows how irrelevant he is nowadays? I like some older stuff, but it looks like he should just hang it up. Angsty teenagers aren't listening to him anymore, they're listening to Black Veil Brides, Avenged Sevenfold, and Bullet for My Valentine.

The Golden Gods Awards are a joke now. I remember one year they had an pretty good line up of nominations. Now it seems like they are only picking 5 bands to nominate for anything. And the bands they pick aren't even good.

eponymous

I suppose I'm repeating myself, but <rant>this uninspired rehash is his worst record yet. In fact, ever since Holy Wood, it's been a decline. Golden Age had some good tracks and ideas, but at least half of it is self-indulgent, forgettable, throwaway stuff. Eat Me is (in my oh so controversial opinion) a decent record, it's just not a Manson record - if I remember correctly, most if not all music was composed by Tim Sköld - but decent hardly cuts it, and I'd happily trade it for, say, the title track off GAG. THEOL is serious competition to Villain, as it's rather difficult to say which one is worse. I suppose Villain is a touch more intelligent, in that it partially apes the lyrical approach of GAG with some of the themes from Mechanical Animals, but musically it is a supreme borefest, and I think it qualifies for top 5 most generic industrial albums of all time, so it gets my vote as The Worst One Yet. </rant>

I think he will never fade away from Alt Rock scene or whatever.

He will pour down his "amateur"( EVEN FOR ROCK RADIO MOTHERFUCKERS!!) albums like in every once in a bloom occasions and still will sound like a "fatty smelly make up fucked up overrated stupid pig" wannabe. Boo.
