Avantasia - New Album In The Making

Avantasia fans rejoice, the group's mastermind Tobias Sammet has just announced that there is a new album in the making, which they expect to release in spring next year.

The following statement was released: "What many have recently been speculating about we're now happy to confirm. Tobias is indeed working on a new Avantasia epic that is planned to be released in spring 2013. Concept wise the album will be a classic Rock-Opera/Metal Opera. It's going to be a timeless fairytale, that despite its fantasy appeal, was inspired by happenings of our modern age and society."

"Originally Tobias wanted to lay Avantasia to rest after the release of its live DVD Flying Opera in April 2011, which topped the charts in Germany, Austria and Sweden and went Top 10 all over Europe, respectively after its headliner appearance at Wacken Open Air 2011 in front of more than 100,000 fans."

"About the surprising return of Avantasia Tobias says: Even though I love to record and tour with Edguy, I didn't foresee how much I need Avantasia when I decided to finish this chapter of my life in 2011. I didn't know if there would be another Avantasia album one day, but I didn't feel like doing it. After the worldwide success of the latest studio releases, an arena world tour that was sold out pretty much everywhere, collaborations with childhood heroes like Alice Cooper, Klaus Meine, Rudolf Schenker, Eric Singer of Kiss etc. I 'knew' that I had said everything I could possibly say in the name of Avantasia. But that's not what Avantasia is all about. I wanna create more great music, I wanna create more fantasy-worlds, the bigger and the more epic, the better. And listening to the material that I have created for this forthcoming chapter in the history of Avantasia, I know there is no way, I am not going to do it! I have got the feeling and the certainty, that this is absolutely meant to happen and to be! - Cheerz, Tobi"

Rejoice? Avantasia fans will cry about this. One more to ruin the poject.
It's cool that he likes the shows and the albums. But having seen three of those shows and talked to the people around me, I know that nobody goes to these shows for the new crap. It's the first two that people want to hear. The day Tobi realizes that, there will be even better shows. Shows where the original Avantasia will be played in entirety. Everything else is just a money printer.

^that happens with 90% of the bands that got too popular, unfortunatly.

I prefer the old, obviously, but Angel of Babylon was rather decent.

I agree, but then again I seem to have quite a taste for so called "sell out" projects

More fan of Metal Opera and Scarecrow than the two latest albums. Feels like Sammet has runs out of good and catchy melodies.

TLDR: Toby realized that Avantasia was far superior to Edguy and started making a lot of money with it. So he decided to continue.

If you are ONLY a speed metal fan, maybe, but I simply loved all the Avantasia's albuns. In fact, I prefer the last three over the metal operas, altough they are great !
My brain begs me to hear "Twisted Mind", "The Scarecrow" and "Wicked Symphony" quite often.
I'm really excited about a new album and can't wait to it !

Get ready to see them at you-know-which festival next year

What bugs me is this sentence: "respectively after its headliner appearance at Wacken Open Air 2011 in front of more than 100,000 fans.", Wacken only sells 75.000 tickets, or did they also count the people who watched the live-stream (don't even know if it was actually broadcast)

And not even half of them were there that day. I'd say it's a euphemism. No need to make exact measures when you can just announce 100k

Hmm...this could be interesting, since all of Avantasia's albums have been pretty good, but the problem with The Scarecrow Trilogy, having listened to both The Metal Operas recently, was that the story was a bit too vague overall (the change in musical style didn't bother me). If the story is as strong as that of The Metal Operas and has a list of guest singers like that of The Scarecrow Trilogy, this could be a very good album.

TWS was easily my favorite of theirs. Scarecrow Trilogy>Metal Opera.

Looking forward to this. =D

I'd still name myself a bigger fan of the Metal Opera, but that story wasn't exactly stellar, though the music was exceptional. I'd love to hear a more concise story with a mix of all the different styles from the Scarecrow trilogy and the Metal Opera. Either way though, I'm a huge Sammet fan and have enjoyed his Avantasia projects much more than his recent Edguy albums.

I smell pressure from the record company.

Good point, i'm sure there is a bit of that too.
