It's official: Arjen Anthony Lucassen, prog guru, is working on a new Ayreon album. The new studio record is scheduled to be released next year. Arjen found an interesting way to make the announcement by releasing a hilarious video, which can now be seen below. It has been a while since Ayreon released their latest album 01011001 back in 2008.

Who will be the guest musicians? More details should be announced soon.

His last really good release was The Universal Migrator, so I guess it's time for something good again. The Human Equation was too theatrical and at times IMPOSSIBLY cheesy, and the one with zeros and ones was very uneven, with great songs mixed with crappy bits. His latest solo album had barely 5 good songs out of who knows how many. Lucassen's main and biggest sin is being too prolific.

You didn't mention the new Star One album. What is your opinion on that? I completely agree with what you said about '01', though I absolutely love the album, there are some weird songs mixed in there like Web of Lies and Connect the Dots. His solo album is pretty bad too. Absolutely love the new Star One though!

Very funny video, showcasing his talents and the fact a new Ayreon album is in works!

The Star One album is a lot more straightforward and therefore less pretentious and cheesy. It's decent, I enjoyed it.

Before you ask about Guilt Machine - "On This Perfect Day" was very weak. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't like it at all.

I've enjoyed every Ayreon release, so this is fantastic news! Especially after an average solo album..

Arjen. Crazy or a genius?

I think both.

That video is awesome and funny. And by golly, that is an impressive home studio.

Words cannot express my excitement. I've been pining for a new Ayreon record, and found that the debut album from Docker's Guild (The Mystic Technocracy Season One: Age Of Ignorance) was able to temporarily fill the void. I was blown away by how well those guys do Ayreon. Seems Arjen isn't the only one who knows the formula...

But yeah, definitely check out that disc while you wait for this one.

Yes! I've been saying for ages we need to have Jon Oliva singing in everything.
I'm hoping for Warrel Dane and Matt Barlow as well.
