23:41 - R Lewis AC Milan is stealing a match after one other. I'm fed of it.
23:33 - Chobo_jokeR @Apothecary: you just made my day with the new oranssi pazuzu album comment. I've been spinning both of their albums non stop. Can't wait for new stuff.
It's February 1st, which means it's the moment you've all been waiting for… The 9th Annual Metal Storm Awards are upon us. We've done a lot of work in setting this whole thing up and now it's your turn to bust your voting nut 30 seconds in to the month then spend the next 28 days whining because we didn't include your favorite album or put it under the wrong genre.
Seriously though, take your time and check out our nominees. We've got LOTS of first timers that made the cut and are worth taking a listen to before casting your vote. And for any questions regarding what category a band belongs in please ask HERE.
It was a good year for stoner/sludge. And how about that prog category?
Epic fail as well as industrial category.
I always thought that Enslaved plays black metal at the first place
But...
...can we expect any wisdom and reliability from webpage, who 2 years ago pastet Septic Flesh into symphonic metal category?

then what would you call SepticFlesh. Iff you say death metal you clearly have no clue what you're talking about.
And Enslaved has primarily been progressive albeit with some black in it on quite a few albums already.
Dunno if i'll be able to vote for most of the categories this year, the only cats I can safely vote for are the Black, Death, Metalgaze, Doom and Extreme Doom. And it seems that I missed a lot of great albums this year.
The Prog, Sludge/Stoner, Avantegarde, Post Metal, Grindcore categories look GREAT ! I'll be spending a lot of time checking those albums ... thanks you guys
For the same reason anything does not make the top 10 of any cat, we in Staff did not agree with your opinion.
Well fair enough. I noticed last year as well, the djent community tends to disagree hugely with the MS community on the matter of djent. There are other great releases in the category, though. I love The Royal Thousand.
Rest assured that is was given a fair chance, the other albums just seemed more deserving to us. I personally didn't like the album, the vocals play a major part in my disdain but the songwriting is also less endearing than the debut. Luckily, the format of the awards accounts for taste and you can always write-in (which it appears you may already have.)

I disagree with you. Septicflesh clearly belonged in the symphonic metal category for that album as does Enslaved in prog this year. It is not about whether you think the band plays a specific genre, it's about the album itself. Bands tend to mix-up genres a lot too, so sometimes it can go either way.
Why vote on new Fear Factory album is avaible only through 'vrite in vote' option
This is heresy
Since at least 2010, when Overkill was not selected as nr 1 in thrash metal album category Metal Storm Awards are becoming more and more unreliable
So if I were to go along the lines of your reasoning, I'd have to dismiss any site that presents opinions different than my own? How utterly preposterous.

No, I noticed somebody else wrote it in. Djent is a category that is fairly near and dear to my heart, and some of those releases I hadn't been intrigued by when they first came out, so I think that's one of the categories I'll do some serious digging around in before voting.
I've decided to listen (and oftentimes re-listen) to all of the albums that are available from the Awards on Spotify before making my final decisions. Starting at the top, so Alternative Metal releases first. Cheers for giving me such good listening inspiration for the whole of February.

That's the spirit! A high-five to everyone that see the true meaning of this event: To discover new music and help the bands by giving them more attention! I hope you find some good stuff!
Enjoy the ride!

Because of this mixes between different genres sometimes I have many doubts, where should I put the artist or album. That's it.
Btw. I don't think, that it' s good idea to paste some band to completely different category only because on one album they are playing something different.

The band is nominated for just that album not for the other stuff they have released.
If that were the case Tiamat should go in death metal, same for Sentenced.
With nominations we just judge the album that was released that year.
Why do you do this to me? BM and avantguarde are a fucking nightmare to vote in so far. So much goodness! I guess it means you did a good job. And they say 2012 was weak...

For some reason, I missed all those black metal releases last year. I think my black metal purchases were too underground lol.

Thanks for dispel of my doubts
I will have this in mind in the future

Agree... The worst for me is probably Extreme Doom. Most of them I found fucking brilliant.
How did Periphery's Periphery II not make a nomination in Djent/Math metal? It was a seriously good album!
If there is anything, I miss Stealing Axion's debut far more from the math category
I wish Stealing Axion got in too, but some of the other staff disagreed with me =P Either way, the rest of the nominees are worth checking out, if you haven't already
If it wasn't for that Aevangelist masterpiece I would have picked it without it a single thought.
Actually the fact Aevangelist is here is a huge surprise to me considering how close it came to not being so (came head to head with another band and I expected it to lose out to that one).

Same here, I was expecting Aevangelist to lose out. Oh well... *shrug*
The only album I absolutely miss is Diskord's, was one Death Metal's highlights last year yet it didn't make the cut.
Yeah I was disappointed it didn't make it too. There were some surprising dissenters during the deciding process unfortunately.
Definitely one of my biggest dissapointments when it coems to the nominees... The only reason I'm not that angry is because Aevangelist made it.
Damn... Could you imagine a Aevangelist, Agruss and Diskord?! That would have been too much for me to handle ahhahahaha. Brilliant bands.

Indeed, but I guess we should be happy two great and obscure bands are here.
My face when I realized I already knew every prog metal album nominee. I'm a fucking prognerd.
I thought all the nominees weren't that obscure this year for prog. Last year we had Thence. This year, I think most prog fans on the site have been pretty vocal about most of these nominees already, so there was less of a surprise factor. If you ask me, I think it's a strong year for the category and some albums that I really enjoyed didn't get in.
The latest Circus Maximus album appeared to be unnoticed by most of people
they weren't unnoticed. In fact, their previous one is one of my favourite prog releases, but we felt there are other more deserving albums to be nominated this year
Voted in most categories that I listened to this year. Only ones remaining: Avantgarde, Black, Death and Extreme Doom. Will probably drag those till the last minute. First World Metalhead proplem!
I love MS award season! This is my go to source to discover the best new metal bands and their new albums every year, and I'm always overwhelmed with the excellent variety that is posted here. Whenever I get tired of the same old thing I come to MS to discover something new, and whenever I want to discover something great I always turn to the MS Award archive! YOU GUYS ROCK! Thanks for your hard work and dedication to all that is MeTaL. \m/
I think this was an average year in general, and for me the best releases were in Doom and Melodeath category. I have more or less my list of best albums, but I'm not going to vote before hearing more of the nominated albums specially in these categories. I think the MSA is a great opportunity to catch up on our favourite genres and perhaps get new bands in our collection.
