From TV to reality. Surprisingly, French metallers ETHS have presented their new vocalist, named Rachel Aspe. However, Rachel is not unknown as she made her international debut on prime time television as part of "La France A Un Incroyable Talent" (the French equivalent/franchise of "America's Got Talent") where she showed off her growls which stunned the pop judges and crowd before going viral and being seen by millions of people online. She will replace the former vocalist Candice Clot which left for personal reasons and was in the band for nearly 15 years.

You can watch a video of her performance on the show below.

Rachel commented on joining the band, saying: "I'm really proud to be a part of ETHS. I've been a fan of the band for many years, and it's a great honor for me to sing songs I have been listening to for such a long time."

Regarding the new band member, ETHS stated: "We're pleased to welcome Rachel to the band. She's great and has an awesome voice! Thanks a lot to Virginie and Nelly for filling in on stage during the last few months. Now a new chapter is beginning for ETHS. We're energized and looking forward to our upcoming shows with Rachel. See you on the road!"

This newer version of ETHS announced their first shows with Rachel on vocals. Dates include shows in France and Switzerland throughout April, May, and June. More dates are forthcoming, and confirmed dates are as follows:

April 10th - Le Ninkasi Kao, Lyon
April 13th - MJC Picaud / La Tangente, Cannes
May 2nd - Secret Place, Montpellier
May 3rd - Balelec Festival, Lausanne
June 1st - Conservatoire Henri Dutilleux, Clamart
June 29th - Festiz, Tournus

She is a really bad grunter and cannot grunt to save her life. ETHS were mediocre at best before, but have just become worse. My God...
Rulatore - 03.04.2013 at 21:43
Lol, that was quite unexpected

i second that... i really think she got int o that band only because she is "viral" (her growls were good stunt for talent show but she need to work on them more)
theFIST - 03.04.2013 at 22:05
Damn she is bad
Promonex - 03.04.2013 at 22:11
I never understood why ETHS were that big anyway. Well, seems like it's Kells' time to step out of their shadow now. Or the other way round: with that sorry excuse of a growler ETHS will probably be stepping into Kells' shadow.
Fritillaria - 03.04.2013 at 22:39
Hmmm is she really that awful ? well I don't think so and she's good enough to be in this band.Although I can be better than her ^ ^ she was way lucky !
Doc Godin - 03.04.2013 at 22:40
Bush league, grunts, man. Bush league.
Fritillaria - 03.04.2013 at 22:48
But one thing is irritating about her. I don't like ladies like her in metal because I DON'T want them to turn metal into a hall of fashion models.
Mr. Doctor - 03.04.2013 at 22:52
You saying she needs to get fat?

haha not fat, her style and outfit is irritating to me, too stylish neat and elegant ! I'm not sure perhaps I'm not right. But I don't like this kind of appearance in metal AT ALL !
ManiacBlasphemer - 04.04.2013 at 00:17
Well, well, for a female, I think it ain't that bad, and there is still room for improvement. She will fit well in ETHS, her vocal technique will suit the band for sure. Too much hate going on around here for nothing...
Ozman - 04.04.2013 at 00:31
Also for female extreme vocals it's really bad. She makes Angela Gossow sound like a frigging genius. And that is saying a lot.
Boxcar Willy - 04.04.2013 at 01:34
Wow she's awful. Gurgling the whole time.
JD - 04.04.2013 at 03:34

Agreed. Although I think Angela's vocals were great on the first couple of albums, since "Doomsday Machine" her growls have been sub-par. However, even Angela's current vocals are on a different, superior level of class when compared to the woman in this video... it seems to me like the only reason she got the job was to give the band way more exposure in the public eye. It's definitely not because her death growls are particularly good, as they are very amateurish sounding.

I dunno. I happen to have a bit of endearment for strained and "human-gone-tortured-zombie-psycho" sounding extreme vocals in male growlers/screamers (Matti Karki comes to mind)...and if she can keep it up without dying; it could be a unique and acquired taste for those that can apply that thinking to a female. I see what you are saying though- the fact that she was on a talent show attempting to impress does hint that that is her limit. I'm on the fence...
Fritillaria - 04.04.2013 at 09:27
So why everyone mentions Angela as the best in growling not the the vocalist of Abnormality.
Angelic Storm - 04.04.2013 at 11:44
I don't recall anyone in this thread saying Angela was "the best" in growling...
Vombatus - 04.04.2013 at 12:31
What an awful voice.... If she was hot I'd understand it, but she even fails in that department.

huh? I know I said she is EVEN worse than Angela. Angela is about the single most overrated female extreme vocalist around.
Runhils Gammelsaetter, Corinne v.d. Brandt, Rachel Heyzer, Dana Duffey, Doomed Warrior (no idea what her real name is), Sharon Bascovsky are six that immediately srping to mind who are vastly superior to Angela Gossow. Problem though is that most people have never heard Thorr's Hammer, Acrostichon, Infinited Hate/Occult/Pathology/Temple/Sinsiter (with Rachel on vocals), Mythic/Demonic CHrist, INto Darkness, Derketa.

I've heard Sinister with Rachel and also Derketa vocals are awesome. Well I kinda meant why Angela is the most common example in extreme vocals and making comparison,

She's just talking about the vocals, not the music. The music is obviously not really extreme but no one would call her singing melodic, right?

Was expecting this to be the first comment, always seems to be what everyone is asking when there's a woman in the band. Good that her voice was actually talked about first (even if it is shit).

I agree fully. I'm so tired that women in metal bands always get judged by their apperance first, and not performance.
