Slowly but surely, At The Gates reveal piece by piece more about their comeback album. At War With Reality, one of the most anticipated albums of the year, will be released on October 27th, 2014 in Europe and October 28th in North America via Century Media Records. However, as of now, you can feast your eyes on the cover that will grace the record. It was created by a very well known artist: Costin Chioreanu. The legendary band also revealed some of the song titles. So, today you find out more about the album, including its concept.

Some of the songs included on At War With Reality are the following: "Death And The Labyrinth", "The Circular Ruins", "The Conspiracy Of The Blind", "Order From Chaos", "Eater Of Gods" or "Upon Pillars Of Dust".

At The Gates vocalist and lyricist Tomas Lindberg commented explaining the album's theme: "The concept of At War With Reality is based on the literary genre called 'Magic Realism'. The main style within this genre is the notion that 'reality' is ever-changing, and needs to be constantly re-discovered and re-conquered. We felt that Costin's artwork style would be the perfect visual contribution to this album, so he became the natural choice..."

And At The Gates guitarist and main songwriter Anders Björler further explained: "I got in touch with Costin a few years back. I was immediately impressed with his dark and original style. He collaborated on some T-shirt designs for At The Gates as well as designing the album artwork for my Instrumental project. We realized pretty early on that his style would accompany the music and the concept perfectly."

Additionally, Costin Chioreanu said: "I have been waiting for this album for almost 20 years and it's the biggest honor for me to illustrate it - As there is no greater achievement for a dreamer than the moment when the dream becomes reality. At War With Reality is by far the most complex visual story I have ever created, from all points of view. From the very first moment the band presented the concept, I found it extremely stunning and at the same time super-challenging. I like to think that visual art and music are tools to explore our minds - to create, to discover and to push the limits. At The Gates, one of my all-time favorite Metal bands, offered me a chance to explore a new dimension."

I understand what the guy was going for, but the delivery of that concept. My God.
exomorphyx89 - 21.08.2014 at 18:32
WTF!
At The Gates are great musicians but this artwork stinks!
!J.O.O.E.! - 21.08.2014 at 18:33
That would have been so much better without the awkward silhouettes.

A part of me was hoping they'd re-adopt their fantastic 1992 logo too.

Really ugly, the font choice actually stands out as the worst part. It's so bland and the whole thing looks messy/mediocre.

The angry art critics in these comments, lol.

Rediscovery theme sounds cool, is there any sample of the album ?? This artwork is matching somehow perfectly "Conspiracy of the blind", but I expected some guns, AK-47, Uzi.. do you??
Frank Comstock - 21.08.2014 at 22:42
Yeah, that's not very good, IMO. Hope the album is better.

If only. But I'd only be happy if they accompanied it with the early sound as well

The cover art is cool; I appreciate the symbolism.

Hail the return
ManiacBlasphemer - 22.08.2014 at 00:07
Nice to see one of my own making the cover for such a well known band. Though not impressive, it fits the overall idea of the album title. Saw crappier cover artworks, worse than this for sure.
deadone - 22.08.2014 at 02:15
I really don't like that cover. Hopefully the music will be good.
Ace Frawley - 22.08.2014 at 06:05
That cover is okay to my eyes. Hope the music is good.
AngelofDeth - 22.08.2014 at 07:20
The sillhouette is kinda weird but it doesn't bother me all that much. meh. Not expecting much from the album wither but hopefully it's good.

Hard to not judge an album by its cover but these guys are making that claim hard to resist lol ...
Sword_Chant - 22.08.2014 at 23:46
I've seen worse. Nevertheless, i'm still interested to hear this despite the cover art.
LordHypnos - 23.08.2014 at 00:25
Gamma Ray's latest cover was worse.
