Moonspell - Share New Album Title

Slowly but surely, Moonspell reveal more about their new album. Currently in the recording process for the follow-up to Alpha Noir / Omega White, the Portuguese band reveals that the new opus will be called Extinct. The band promises to release a documentary about the making of the album and its concept. For now, you can take a look at some of the photos from the recording sessions. The record is set to be released on March 15th via Napalm Records.

The band is working with producer Jens Bogren at Fascination Street Studios.

Moonspell also released this update: "Without music life would be a mistake - Friedrich Nietzsche.

"We take the chance and celebrate Music's International Day by revealing to you all the name of our forthcoming album: Extinct. A tour in Europe as well as a small documentary about the making of the album and its concept will follow.

"In a world where music is dragged through the muddy waters of opinion, viral, novelty and curiosity only. In a scene where the debate is far from musical and lands more into if the new Mastodon video is sexist or not; or if someone is wearing a new oufit by a badass designer; or if we should support Babymetal while real bands struggle for that space to promote their music; our sons are our statement. Our music still primordial to all things, straight from the heart, whatever direction it might take us in the future. That's why we leave home and families and are together living and recording old school, like the lunar family we've become.

"We are happy to share yet another small video teaser with you, in hope time runs fast so we can stop the teasing and everyone can start listening and feeling what's coming your way. March 15th."

Me too! It's funny that they mention the new Mastodon video. It seems to be the talk of the hour.

Awesome news. I hope they'll fuse the gothic and heavier sides back together, unlike the last album, which I could never really get into.

Hope they hit London again, I found out I missed the last one just after it happened!

Looking forward to this one though, I liked Alpha Noir but not Omega White, hope they go back to the Wolfheart or Night Eternal sound!

I disagree, unless they're going to play black/gothic metal again, like on Wolfheart, which still remains an amazing album (their best without a doubt).

The reason I disagree is because I really prefer their "atmospheric gothic" approach like is heard on Sin/Pecado or Omega White. Their black metal (Marcel ) heavier sound doesn't really suit them. So yeah, I really hope for an atmospheric gothic in contrary to a more heavy approach, for the new album.

Edit: well, I guess a combination of the gothic and heavy approach can be a good thing, like for example they did on The Antidote. That's a great album, one of their top 5 best albums for sure.

I love The Antidote and it's something quite unique. It's one of my fav Moonspell albums after Wolfheart and Irreligious. I'm not a big fan of the Sin/Pecado phase even though they still have some pretty good songs there.

Really hard to choose as Sin/Pecado and The Antidote are both great (and totally different) albums. Sin/Pecado is a bit less consistent because some tracks are brilliant (The Hanged Man in particular) yet others are "just okay", but overall I love the style of that album. It's pretty similar to Omega White I'd say, hence why I highly prefer OW to Alpha Noir. Not that fond of their heavier style, as I said.

Totally irrelevant to state this, but they are an awesome live band. I saw them years ago here in 013 (Tilburg) when they supported Cradle of Filth and while I didn't even know them, I was amazed at how much I enjoyed their performance. Much better than CoF as well, in fact. It has to do with Fernando for sure, he's a great frontman and overall seems like a great guy as well.

Oh yes, I've seen them live a few times, they tour quite a lot in their home country (unlike some bands) and they always do special shows for us on Halloween especially. I plan on seeing them again this Halloween depending on what they are planning this time, maybe play an entire album or something.

So, I agree with you. Every time I see them they are better and better. They just know how to captivate the audience and keep things interesting.

1. Extinct is a very lame album title

2. I don't give a crap about new Mastodon's video

3. Using a Nietzsche quote doesn't necessarily make you look or sound smart

With that said, i hope the album kicks ass. To be better than the previous doesn't take much effort anyway...
