Trepalium - Forced To Change The Name Of Their Last EP

Following the complaint of the American band The Voodoo Moonshine, Trepalium have decided to change the name of their last EP in order to avoid a lawsuit. Their 2014 Voodoo Moonshine EP will now be called by the name of the EP's second track "Damballa's Voodoo Doll". The first edition of the EP is thus a collector's item.

Here is the new cover of the EP featuring its new title.

The EP is already more popular than the band. If they were trying to achieve something, they failed spectacularly.

Nowadays you can get sued by just walking the streets it seems.

Seems like an attempt from a no name band to gain some form of recognition by attacking a bigger name band who just so happened to coincidentally title an EP the same name as their band that nobody has even heard of. Tsk tsk.

Sueing because the EP name is the same? Like there wasn't tons of bands/albums named after other band's names/albums.

Next I'm gonna name my band "the" and sue everyone that tries to use such a word in their songs.

That's true, but the suer is probably hoping to gain more than the suee.

No matter how you slice it the suer is gaining more attention than they would have if they just kept their damn mouths shut and not given a fuck like the rest of us.

Actually in copyright law it's really hard to protect a common noun like "bakery" "agency" "thing" etc. You have stronger cases when words combine like "The The" etc. Of course when it comes to music the rules apply differently because everyone wants to sound edgy, like !!!, La Femme, etc. But just to avoid not being protected, I had to add extra words in my business's name because it was all common nouns, and provide an AKA (which is the desired short name I had in mind first), so as to be able to be protected in both cases. Which is why I think they had to relinquish their EP name. "Voodoo Moonshine" is kind of a specific combination. Not that I condone the suit, those guys are fucking idiots. If bands had to sue each other over that stuff we'd have no more music to listen to.
