Deftones - Plan To Release New Album In September

Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has revealed in a recent interview with Rolling Stone that the plan is to release their next record around September/October. The band has been recording the follow-up to Koi No Yokan and produced 16 songs for the new album, the most tunes the group has ever recorded for an LP. You can start anticipating the upcoming offering from the alternative metallers.

The band is working with producer Matt Hyde once again and they expect the tracking to be done by the end of March.

Moreno explained: "The songs are amazing, and we wrote them in a really cool way. We had all of us in a room together with one person expressing an idea and another person jumping on it. The songs are really built as a collective. We have five guys who have almost completely different takes on music, so when it works, it works great."

He described the new material: "I think it's a little more of a heady record. I feel like we've gone into the songs and really dissected them. If something sounded a little straight, we took a left turn and made things a little screwy. We just tried something completely opposite, not to sabotage it, but to challenge ourselves and try new things that we haven't done in the past. It definitely feels like we've taken a step from our last record. But it's definitely a Deftones record, and it has all the elements that make us who we are. We're not going out there to change anything, other than just thinking outside the box."

I didn't have fun with Koi Na Yokan to be honest but yeah, some songs were very good. It was only just a couple of days back their one of the song "Rosemary" played on my pad and it was amazing.

Look forward to this release.

I highly recommend listening to Koi No Yokan. Brilliant album as far as I'm concerned. Not sure if you will like it though. It's very well put together and there is a certain finesse to the songs.

It's the only Deftones album I haven't heard yet, heard really good things about it indeed, but somehow never got to it.

Koi has been their best since White Pony, imo. Still one of my all time favorite bands. As for this news, I could have sworn he said they planned to hit the studio in October/November...not release it then. Maybe that was another band.
