The band's logo looks really out of place on the album art.

Both arts are classy, though single one is much cooler. I recall being a little let down by the last one due to the production being way too clean (though still a good record). Hopefully this one will be a little grimier.

I may be in the minority, but I thought the relatively clean production coupled with the somewhat progressive and outside-the-stoner-box songwriting made the last album really stand out in a bloated genre. I love stoner metal, but I'll be the first to admit that a lot of the bands out there right now are basically interchangeable. Things have gotten pretty stale, and Witchcraft is a welcome exception to that trend. I very much hope they continue to defy the norms. If they choose to go in a different direction than how they sounded on Legend, I hope that at least that direction won't be back toward the pack.

Yeah, if anything the album art suggests a much cleaner and modern sound. Which is why I thought the band logo looked funny.

I really liked Legend. Songwriting was good, and some of the riffs were great.

It's been a while since I listened to it (many years in fact) but I always found it a bit odd when this band is referred to as stoner metal. To me it's more of a retro hard rock sound, perhaps with some characteristics of stoner and psychedelic rock and some doom bells and whistles. So I agree with you they stand out, but mostly because they make a fairly different kind of music to stoner metal bands =P I'm not against clean production, but I think a bit of an edge is really suited to this band.

That's a fair point, although I guess it points to how hard it is to use genre labels when describing bands that vary their influences (which I'm a pretty big fan of when done well.)
As for an "edge," I think a good band can achieve it through songwriting, and although I enjoy that sort of sludgy guitar sound most stoner/sludge/psych/retro bands employ, I think a lot of them go about it in the wrong way. When you're purposefully trying to make it sound like your album was recorded in a different era - again, not in terms of the writing but by using a bunch of old equipment (or worse still, new equipment tweaked to sound old,) I think that is often used as a substitute for just plain knowing how to write the atmosphere and feel into your music. I have a similar problem with a lot of newer black metal bands. If you can set a mood with the right riffs/vox/songwriting, you don't need to make your album sound like it was recorded in your garage on a personal cassette recorder.

Now that's just my personal taste, and I've certainly had my share of disagreements with people about it ("No, you don't get it, man! The production is SUPPOSED to sound shitty! A real fan would KNOW this!") It's always cool to hear criticism from those that can express it without those types of attacks lol
It'll be interesting to see what direction the new album goes in, in any case.
