Confess - Iranian Band Jailed, Facing Possible Execution

This is concerning. According to reports, members of Iranian thrash/metalcore band Confess have reportedly been jailed and are facing a possible execution for playing metal. Two musicians were arrested in November 2015 and could potentially face execution for charges of blasphemy.

Metal Nation Radio posted a letter sent in by an associate of Confess. The author's name has been censored for his/her own safety. Frontman 'Siyanor [-13]' and DJ 'Chemical', ages 23 and 21, were allegedly arrested by the Army of Guardians of the Islamic Revolution on November 10th, 2015. The charges against them read as blasphemy; advertising against the system; forming and running an illegal and underground label in the satanic metal and rock style; writing anti-religious, atheistic, political and anarchistic lyrics; and interviewing with forbidden radio stations.

The musicians could face a minimum of six months to six years in prison, and worse, if they are found guilty of the blasphemy charge, they could be executed. After spending several months in solitary confinement, the two made bail on February 5th, paying a rough equivalent to $30,000 in U.S. dollars.

The government has allegedly seized all of their personal online accounts. The current situation of the guys is that they are working with their lawyers and waiting for their trial.

When in theory US tries bomb some country to bring justice and get rid of regime in theory its good, but in practice here we go isis and shit

You went very off-topic with this comment... but whatever. The USSR fell from within, but it was something calculated. If you study its late history, you will come to know that within the CP there were 3 factions. The reformists lead by Gorbachev, a friend of the US, the conservatives led by several generals that were like the Iron Guard of stalinism and the nationalists led by Boris Yeltsin. The last one sought to disband the union since it was no longer economically viable. The Russian Socialist Republic had to cover the expenses of the other Socialist Republics that were virtually bankrupted for a very long time (since the time of Leonid Brezhnev). For years Russia was selling its gold reserves to foreign countries in order to acquire credits to finance these republics.

ISIS is an US creation without any shred of doubt. Their destabilizing actions in Iraq and Syria led to the creation of this dreadful organization. No matter who you want to blame, these two countries were pretty prosperous and safe under their own rulers, dictatorships as they were. Same thing with Libya and Gaddafi. The US upset the balance of that region only to strengthen the postion of their Saudi allies against Iran. And by the way, you say revolutions must come from the inside. Peculiarly, the Islamist Revolution in Iran did come from the inside as the former monarch, the shah was a US puppet. No matter how much we, westerners try to portray Iran as the bad guy, it all comes down to whom the US holds in good graces. Iran is anti-US, thus they are the bad guys.

The problem with people like you and those that lead us is that they have a very narrow-minded way of thinking. You judge the Middle East through a Westerner's point of view, ignoring the fact that culturally and religiously that region is totally different. Concepts like human rights, democracy and freedom of thought took centuries to develop and to be implemented in Europe, but the main reason they prevailed was because the people embraced them. It was a process that began in the lower classes and eventually changed the ruling classes as well. In the Middle East, these concepts were imposed with force. While in Europe we see them as the epitome of civilization, for them it means foreign military occupation, the swindling of resources by foreign corporations, destabilization and desecration of their own sacred values. We tend to blame them for being so radical, but we forced them to be as such. We robbed them of their countries, of their values, of their dignity and of their culture just because we considered them anachronistic.

No. It must be in the whole world if people wish it to be. Try doing that by force and the people will be even more convinced that it shouldn't be as such. For a Muslim, his religion is more important than anything else. We may not respect this principle, but we must accept it. The longer we deny it or ignore, the longer is gonna take for that region to finally find its peace. When the US will finally loose its influence in the Middle East and stop supporting terrorist states like Israel or Saudi Arabia, then we might speak of peace and stability in that region (alongside with some border modifications as well).

I'll go horribly off-topic, but since I live in Israel at the moment, remind me exactly how Israel is a terrorist country?; oh, and when you want to call a country "terrorist", don't - you'll be contradicting yourself.

Well, when I will stop seeing Palestinians being oppressed every day, persecuted and their number dwindling year after year, maybe I will lift the terrorist-state affirmation. Before that, to me Israel seems more like a combination between Nazi Germany and South Africa during the Apartheid days. Not to mention that it is one of the main reasons why the Middle East is unstable. It serves as a bridge top for the US to exercise its influence across the Levant. Do you consider it a coincidence that most of the countries that were against Israel such as Syria, Iraq (during the leadership of Saddam Hussein), Iran or Libya were destabilized or were the subjects of economic sanctions?

Nothing against Israeli citizens. I believe most of them are kind, benevolent people. But you have to do something about your political system. While the US will take your side, nothing will happen to your country, but as you can see, its influence is starting to diminish. Sure, you guys are far away from the dreadfulness of Saudi Arabia. But that does not excuse the decades long persecution of the Palestinians.

So, their unfortunate situation after WW2 is an excuse to create a Holocaust for the Palestinians as well, just because jews were once victims of other nations? This affirmation is what most of the political correct marxist thinkers teach today. If black people used to be branded as slaves and were oppressed once upon a time, they are excused when they do the same thing to white people. Because the first were victims and the second were perpetrators once upon a time.

And for Israel to be born, millions of Palestinians were evicted from their houses and forced to seek refuge in other countries. Only in neighboring countries such as Jordan, Syria or Lebanon there are as many Palestinians as there are in the West Bank and Gaza Strip combined.

The logic that they lived here 2000 years ago thus the land belongs to them is also very idiotic. How would it be for everyone to just move back to wherever they were 2000 years ago and kick the current inhabitants out just because a said land belonged to them once upon a time? There is no justification for the bad deeds done against Palestinians. For years whoever brought the situation into discussion, he/she was accused of anti-semitism. This label always used to end all debates, but not anymore.

Wow that's truly awful. Amazing to think that merely playing music can get one gaoled or executed in some parts of the world.

The above quotes are ridiculous - not sure how state of Israel, Marxism and ISIS have anything to do with a bunch of heavy metal musicians being arrested in Iran.

Blame Bad English for that. I would've kept it to myself if not for his comments.

It's time to support Iranian bands, in Iran it's really hard and dangerous to held a concert or release an album or even walk on the streets with metal band logos printed shirt.
I hope metalstorm shows its support to Iranian bands, pays more attention on their albums with more reviews and adding more Iranian bands.
Not just posting one news about them.
With this much trouble and difficulties to playing and practicing metal music in Iran, we are still continuing it. There are so many talented musicians and bands in Iran.
Metalstorm please pay more attention about underground metal music in Iran.

I agree partially with what you say, but the bands from Iran need to realize their position and keep their identities a secret as much as possible. The system in that country ain't gonna change over night, just like that, unless the Ayatollah decides to step down from being the highest authority in the country. During communism, in my country you had to take some measures of protection if you wanted to be a rock or metal band. Usually that meant as little exposure as possible.

Yes I agree with you, we should hide our real identity... some years ago, that was not this much dangerous, I mean they took me once and also they took some bands and people in a concert, their punishment was not as bad as this time, i mean that was not execution, they put us in jail for 1 day or two and/or sending to court and force us to pay money and while insulting us and beating us. but this time is different, execution is highest punishment! definitely we should take care more than before.
