Rush - Done With Big Tours, Future Uncertain

Canadian progressive rock legends Rush won't tour anymore, not big tours anyway. Guitarist Alex Lifeson said that it was tough enough for them to get drummer Neil Peart to play last year's R40 tour. The trio has not discussed the state of the band beyond that tour. They could still play one-off shows or short runs in the future and could still record music but the future is uncertain.

"Neil was prepared to commit to 30 dates and he told us that right from the very beginning," Lifeson told Rolling Stone. "He didn't even want to do the tour, to be honest with you. It's been increasingly difficult for him, but he committed to the tour and we got through it. As far as he was concerned, that was the end of touring."

"His shoulders were hurting, his arms were hurting, his elbows, his feet, everything," Lifeson continued. "He didn't want to play anything less than 100 percent. He was finding it increasingly difficult to hit that mark on this last tour. So, all those things combined, I get it. I'm disappointed and I think Geddy [Lee] is very disappointed and we'd love to continue this tour a little bit longer, but we're off now."

But Lifeson is optimistic. "You never know," he says. "Maybe next fall or something like that, we'll plan something. We took a year off before the last tour and we didn't discuss anything about the band or work, and everybody had a great time, and we came back from that. We're getting older and it's getting tougher, but I don't know. We'll see."

This is pretty gutting. The last time they came to the UK was 2011 I believe, and I somewhat liked them then but the tickets were very expensive so I passed. If I knew this then and was into them as much as I am now I would've just coughed up the money, this is a shame.

'' We're getting older and it's getting tougher''
Everything you need to know has been said in this line.
I will say it from my perception as a music fan that going to
concerts is tougher than it was 5-10 years ago.For eample last time I attended Iron Maiden
concert,I had to run from my work to catch a bus, when I came home I had to run to work.
It was no big deal for me then, but now it is.I'm not saying I am old,god forbid, but it's different.
So I completely understand Rush...

For everything, a season. I'm so glad I caught them when I did. I think this goes to show that if you can catch a show for a favourite band, you should, because you can't tell what the future holds.

I have much respect for Rush, but R40 was already the worst release they ever made, not because of Alex Lifeson's drumming but because of Geddy Lee's extremely high-pitched and annoying singing.

I'm pretty sure you mean Neil Peart's drumming. Alex lifeson plays guitars, not drums.
And it's common knowledge that Neil doesn't like touring. Also, I think the kind of drumming in Rush is simply too demanding for a man his age and takes its toll in the long run. I know he is an extremely talented drummer but Neil is 63 now. Playing Rush songs is not like playing in AC/DC, Def Leppard, Scorpions or even Iron Maiden. It is much harder.
