Megadeth - Bassist Breaks Foot, Cancel Shows

On July 15th, Megadeth were slated to perform at the Rockmaraton Festival in Dunaujvaros, Hungary, but had to cancel the show when bassist David Ellefson broke his foot backstage before the band went on. After planning to save the show, mainman Dave Mustaine informed the crowd that Megadeth would not be playing. The thrash band has canceled the remaining two shows on their European tour, including the Harley Days festival in Slovakia Saturday night and the Masters Of Rock festival in the Czech Republic on Sunday, July 17th.

Mustaine revealed the news about the broken foot to his fans on Periscope, stating: "So we're here backstage and David Ellefson was walking across the ground and fell and just broke his foot."

A statement on the Rockmaraton Facebook page reads: "The bassist has a foot bone fracture and Megadeth are unable to perform. Organisers immediately called an ambulance and Ellefson was transported to St. Pantaleon hospital where his foot was placed in a cast. Despite the injury, he was in a good mood and was taking selfies with the paramedics on the way back to the venue when it still seemed that the band would perform. Lead singer Dave Mustaine decided to cancel the show despite Ellefson's desire to perform with his foot in a cast. Mustaine then went on stage to announce the cancellation to the crowd."

I'm glad this stopped being the year of people dying and turned into the year of people breaking their feet.

Well, I'd have loved if you guys present what truly happened there. For those who are interested:

I just came back from Rockmaraton festival (where this happened), Megadeth took the money for the gig and left the venue 3 mins into their announcement. Mustaine did not even want to announce it himself, but the festival's organizer forced him to by closing the mainstage back entrance. Ellefson actually had a toe fracture (ironically enough I had one too on the that day playing soccer on the beach, and only attended hospital the next morning - I'm still fine) he would've been able to play and was willing to (let me remind you of Axl Rose and Dave Grohl quickly) but Mustaine said he is UNABLE to play. Here's the recording of his speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nlNATS0m2_A

Rockmaraton is the best and biggest still surviving metal festival in Hungary (and the most people friendly) and the crowd that day was about 10.000 people who went to see Amon Amarth AND Megadeth. The biggest day on the festival. It wasn't a happy day after this. Most fans here don't even want to see them again. It's the 2nd time in a row that Megadeth cancelled a show here. Not to mention if they at least tried (unplugged, pre-recorded bass track, and there were at least 100 bass players in the crowd who knew most of the songs) everyone would give them huge props.

Mad respect for Ellefson, but sincerely, fv*k you Dave Mustaine. You've proven yourself a disgrace to music.

Important to point out that Megadeth also cancelled their 2014 Budapest appearance too, only to be replaced on the line up by the excellent and energetic Battlecross.
