Emperor - Reunite To Play Shows In 2017

Norwegian black metallers Emperor are set to reunite in 2017 in order to play a few exclusive appearances, the first confirmed show being at the Brutal Assault festival in the Czech Republic. The band will play numbers from their highly-acclaimed 1997 record, Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk, to celebrate its 20th anniversary, and will consist of band members Ihsahn, Samoth and Trym Torson, who was a member of the band up until 2007. These shows, however, do not give indication of whether or not Emperor are set to reunite as a permanent band.

Emperor's official announcement: "Emperor hordes! We will return in 2017 for a few exclusive appearances, performing the Anthems To The Welkin At Dusk album. The first confirmed show is at the Brutal Assault Festival in Czech Republic. Emperial regards, Ihsahn, Samoth, Trym."

How many reunions have they done now in the past few years?

It's funny because both times i went to festivals in Europe (2006, 2014), they had reunited to play live. The one in 2006 at Wacken was pretty special though because it was the first time they played live in many years. Wasn't overly impressed the second time they did it.

Until they're just playing live I am fine with that.

Does this festival run out of tickets quick? I might plan travelling to Europe for this next year.

2016 was the first year since 2011 I've not attended Brutal Assault & I've never known it to sell out. Planning to go again in 2017 so will be looking forward to this gig, although I did manage to catch them already at Hellfest back in 2014.

So I guess in 2019 and 2021 we get more exclusive shows?

Wish they would just reunite for touring if they want to milk the Emperor machine as much as possible instead of making it so "unique" and "exclusive" all the time. Or just have some integrity like Darkthrone or Celtic Frost (but can't blame them if cheap easy money makes them happy and their current project will never have the Emperor notoriety).

The 2014 ItNE show was good though. And sort of made sense because of the landmark influence and blabla....

Apparently, this year got pretty close to selling out. One could tell by the amount of people there were, quite a few more than in 2014 which made it sometimes uncomfortable (at least that was my impression).

Aiming to get to Brutal Assault next year instead of Bloodstock which has run its course a bit. Don't really like that Emperor album (or any after Nightside) but will be swell to see them anyway.
