For 40 seconds or so I thought I listened to good old In Flames but then the chorus popped in and killed all hopes. Should I remove this band from the one I used to listen to or am I a masochist ?

I actually legitimately and unironically enjoy this song. Sounds straight-up like something from Come Clarity, the album that got me into metal. The mixing and cleans are pretty iffy but in terms of cleans, come on, I listen to metalcore, I've heard much much worse.

So far, two good singles, one bad. I'll take those odds. Maybe I'm just such a masochist that I still call myself an In Flames fan, and that itself has lowered my expectations so much.

I had the same reaction. I didn't mind the other two songs, but this one just sucks.

Will probably be better than Siren Charms, but so far the singles have still been total ass.

Coincidentally, I'm in the same boat (both enjoying the song, and holding out due to Come Clarity getting me in metal). Instead of trashing a band I'm no longer as excited about as I used to be, I'd rather just set expectations low and pick out whatever few songs I enjoy off the album, ignoring the rest. Sadly, their last album left me with just Rusted Nail (which was definitely a slow grower), and thus far I enjoy two out of the three singles they've released thus far, so in my pathetic mind, this is at least twice as good as their last album.

I guess this will be another nail in the band's coffin.

Started out boring and then turned painful... didn't even bother with Siren Charms and based on this I doubt I will bother with this one. At a time when Soilwork is making hyper-catchy but very well-written and addictive Gothenburg metal with fantastic vocals, In Flames are continuing to mix boring riffs with weak vocals and ugly choruses.

Was it ironic or sincere ? Not sure about it (or about your mental health when you write that you still trust in In Flames )

Yes I'm an old fan and getting old too (it maybe a bit of dementia) but I enjoy all of In flames albums though I listen to the older stuff a lot more I find I can still get into the new stuff to change it up.

At least they haven't gone Opeth on us! That broke my heart!

Only started listening to them with Soundtrack To Your Escape then rolled back up to Clayman but it does sound a bit too old school for my likings. Last album I liked is Sound Of A Playground Fading tho it took me some time to get into it. Yet A Sense Of Purpose and Siren Charms are worthless, useless and uninspired and I'm afraid that Battle is going that way. On the other hand a band like Dark Tranquillity has never disappointed me, tho they changed their style a couple of times, hence showing that I have nothing against changes as long as quality comes along. As far as In Flames is concerned this is not the case... They screwed it all and I even wonder who they may appeal to...
