Pain Of Salvation - Reveal New Album Cover, Tracklist

Fans have been eagerly awaiting Pain Of Salvation's new album which will follow 2011's Road Salt Two. Their new studio record, however, is hitting stores next year and is called In The Passing Light Of Day. Now finally they have revealed more details about it. The Swedish progressive innovators have announced the worldwide release of the opus for Friday the 13th of January, 2017 via their longtime label partners InsideOutMusic. Check out the cover and tracklist available below.

Working together with acclaimed producer Daniel Bergstrand (In Flames, Meshuggah, Strapping Young Lad, etc.) at Dugout Studio in Sweden, "the band have crafted an album that sees them returning to their much praised heavier sound, featuring the syncopated rhythms, glorious melodies, and intensely personal themes that Pain Of Salvation fans have long loved about the band."

Inextricably linked to the near fatal illness that band-leader Daniel Gildenlöw spent much of the first half of 2014 recovering from, the album is an altogether darker and more impassioned journey. Taking the hospital bed as a narrative hub, the lyrical and musical themes touch on all the conflicting feelings that run through a person's mind when presented with the prospect of death and the passing of life.

Look out for the launch of the album's first single/video on November 18th, 2016.

Gildenlöw comments: "What started off as an annoying infection has, in just hours, suddenly pivoted into the very real possibility of my actual dying. This album also shows the beauty of the transition, of the inevitable. And of the hope of a tomorrow, the hope of change, no matter how frail and naive that hope may be."

Mere speculation regarding the kid but I'm pretty sure that's Daniel Gildenlöw though, which would make sense considering the album is based on his near death experience.

Unimpressive cover aside (because Pain of Salvation has always been masterful at making hideous covers), everything else here is looking good! Longer tracks imply more prog, statements from the band imply more metal, production personnel implies a better mix, etc. I quite liked Road Salt 2, but I've always wondered what more serious prog metal was lurking in the Daniel's head still.
